I remember rushing out to get my vinyl copies and then checking the stores for WEEKS to wait for the 12"

I remember when I bought ARENA...the shipment had just arrived locally here in Trinidad and the store owner had to go retrieve it from the case because it wasn't unpacked yet...just to keep me happy. The man was stunned I knew it was in the country, of course I did...hasn't forgotten me 25-6 years later.

I remember running all over Madison, WI. the day Liberty came out until i finally found a store that had it, but they had not bothered putting it on the shelf yet, they had to go get one out of the box in the back for me. I remember getting my Liberty at the first record store I went to, staring at the Billboard page...and realised it didn't make the Top 40. Also bought Violator by Depeche Mode at the same time...and played that one more.

In 1984 or so I had placed an order for 8 different Duran 12" singles from Record Runner (when they were just $5.00 a piece). I had my mom send them a check. I anxiously awaited for them to arrive, and it seemed like it took forever... Finally, one day my mom picked me up from school and I got in the car and she said "I'm cold, will you grab my jacket for me" so I reached around to the back seat and grabbed a coat which seemed tangled in something and as I grabbed it a 12" cardboard box fell out.... Oh man, I was so excited. Got home, carefully opened the box and put the vinyl on the turntable and heard a bunch of remixes and b-sides for the first time.
Kids these days just won't ever know that feeling.

Hi everybody I'm new on these boards... but not new in every other sense... (38 years old and a (male)Duranie since 1984.
I clearly remember the good old times... I was introduced to DD inm 1984 by a friend who gave me a tape copy of Arena. I didn't have any money to buy records, and I REALLY wanted to get into this faboulous band so much. Every day I went to one of 3 recordstores in my city and heard DD - THEN one day I had enough money to buy ONE DD record. Which one should it be? After carefull thinking I decided to buy RIO (never regret that...) played it nonstop for 6 months before getting my dirty hands on 7 and the ragged tiger. I think that giving these records full attention for so long - is the reason why I never stop following the band. And the expectation alone really raised the joy of finally getting the hand on those wonderful vinyl big size wonder records. No, the kids nowadays don't know what they're missing. Seems to me that music is growing into a consuming product, rather than a work of art and wonder - which you NEED to own. Sadly...

That's basically it in a nutshell....music for the masses has become akin to fast food, something to download quickly, digest, and then throw away
I'm guitly of the same with regards to downloading, as since I had my first MP3 player 3 years ago, I rarely by Cd's now
I will however buy the physical CD If I really enjoy the downloaded album of if it has bonus tracks etc.
In the case of DD I will buy the the CD as I have my DD collection to add to.
IMO the joy of buying albums died to some extent when vinyl was phased out as playing an album and a CD is whole different experience.

My you're a bunch of sorry old geezers! Do any of you read the comments on Youtube? All the time I see posts along the lines of, "I'm 14 and hearing this for the first time. It's great! I wish I grew up in your time. F**k Bieber, I'm gonna buy this band's album!" There are plenty of young whippersnappers out there that like the old stuff better than today's vapid ear candy.

"I am pleased that I am old enough to remember returning home from the record store, excitedly clutching my new Duran Duran (or anyone else for that matter) album on vinyl"... I share the exact same memories... an italian fan a hell yeah- I remember that as well- back then you never heard the album until you played it at home. I'm very pro i-tunes and I use i-tunes for music because it's convinient and for buying individual songs is fab but there's something more satisfying about a great big slab of vinyl than some digital download or even a cd however vinyl is not as convinient as modern technology
