Ahh yes, seen it, only that and the live version from 84 that i've ever heard. Better in 84 but i still liked this. Apparently the bass player has sadly passed away.

Simon has said that it's a very hard song to sing, and that's why they don't play it.

He should've used his falsetto like on the record. Poor Simon.

He should've used his falsetto like on the record. Poor Simon. That would only have helped with the bit before the chorus. On the chorus, he never used falsetto...he was simply able to sing that high back then. In any event, he's only human. Many lauded singers (including Bono and Sting), in order to make high songs singable later in their careers, have either had to 1. Lower the key of the song, sometimes significantly (as U2 have done with I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Pride, and Until the End of the World - in fact, those are songs that they never played live in the higher album key; or 2. Change the melody to get rid of the high parts (as Sting has been doing with Roxanne for many years - it can bum fans out when they have a favorite melody line and it's changed, but it's better than hearing what happened to Simon in the clip, no?). Of course, the other option is to shelve the song (or to never have performed it live at all, as in the case of Red Hill Mining Town off of The Joshua Tree...an amazing song, but one on which Bono was frying his voice on just to get it down on tape in the studio)!

Oh dear, was he hoarse or something? It's a shame because NMOM is one of my Top 2 favourite DD songs of all time, and I'd love to get a LIVE version...without problems on the vocals.

He must have been hoarse or something... This is much better (from the same tour, recorded 2-3 weeks before the first one):

I hear you. Stevie Nicks also, her voice is a lot deeper now. She does new vocal arrangements on those classic Fleetwood Mac songs.

Yeah, as a fan it can some times be jarring to hear your favorite songs sound so different, but they gotta do what they gotta do! I guess it's better than not hearing them at all! One interesting note: I technically shouldn't have included U2's Until the End of the World as an example since they actually shifted it UP in key (a full step and a half!) to do it live since I guess the melody line was too LOW for Bono to sing! I love that album version so much that I can barely listen to the altered live version!
