I recently heard the original Oakland recording of ARENA for the first time, with the audience en without overdubs, and was blown away by it. So much better and more powerful than what they released as ARENA. So it got me wondering how many unknown treasures are there that I haven't heard yet? So can you guys help me, what are in your opinion the best bootleg live recordings?

wow, that must have been so crazy for you to hear!!! that oakland show boot is miles away from the sound of the released version of arena...
there's tons of good duran live shows. in fact, there's at least 1-2 really good ones from every tour they've done.
some key ones that come to mind from the early years are:
july 9, 1981 hammersmith odeon (on vinyl it was called DECADENT DURANTICS) *this is the oldest duran recording dec 15, 1981 hammersmith odeon (this is now released on itunes but used to be a boot) november 3, 1982 hammersmith odeon (bbc recording) november 16, 1982 hammersmith odeon (different bbc recording) (this is released as live at hammersmith '82 on dvd) dec 31, 1982 usa mtv new years show (also as a video!) march 1984 2 nights at madison square garden (2 different boots, both sound good) april 1984 oakland radio broadcast boot
that does it for the early years, maybe someone will chime in with the post 84 gigs too!!

also from 1983/84 there is a soundboard-ish recording from either Leeds or Brighton floating around
from post 84
Dance into the fire- Strange Behaviour Tour 1987 recorded in California Live in Rio January 1988 (again SB Tour) Big Live Thing Milan 1988 Electric Theatre 1989- Tokyo Tower Records 1993 accoustic Japan 1994 Unplugged Uncut from 1993 Latest & Greatest Wembley 1998 Unstaged 2011
there are various Pop Trash tour era boots out there- some are really good- just don't remember the detail

The Manchester show from 2005 is great for rarities and sound quality. Best version of Friends of Mine I ever heard too.

The Manchester show from 2005 is great for rarities and sound quality. Best version of Friends of Mine I ever heard too. AGREE! They play an absolute fabulous version of Astronaut with a lively crowd. Sound of Thunder seamlessly segues into Hold Back The Rain, they unleashed a rockin version of Electric Barberella, and played a lovely soudning Skin Trade. There was the Manchester show from 1989, excellent recording and the Amsterdam show from 1981 where they blow the crowd away with Anyone Out There and a faster solid version of Fame.
