EMI (UK) CD: CDP 7 46003 2 - Capitol (US) CD: CDP 7 46003 2
Whilst the first CD pressings for the debut album were made in Japan, West Germany was chosen for the very first 'RIO' CDs. Well, I have 3 different pressings of these early 'RIO' CD issues:
1. The one which was made in West Germany by PolyGram for the UK market (EMI) in early 1984. No clear plastic hub around the centre hole, the aluminium disc goes all the way to the centre hole (solid hub). The cover was printed by Neef, West Germany. Neef was one of the first printing companies who started printing inserts for PolyGram releases. Matrix: 746 003-2 2893 060 03
2. The one which was made in West Germany by Sonopress for the UK market (EMI) in late 1984, probably 1985. Matrix: SONOPRESS B-6073/CDP7460032A
3. The one which was made in the USA by Sony at the DADC pressing plant in Terre Haute, Indiana for the US market (Capitol) in late 1984, probably 1985. 'Made in USA - Digital Audio Disc Corp.' stamped on clear plastic ring at center of disc. Matrix: DIDX-239 4 +++ +++++
- I read somewhere that the very very first US issue was also manufactured in West Germany, and also (as the debut album) came initially in a clear plastic 'blister pack'. I have never seen this. Someone has it and can give me information and/or upload pictures?
- I also would love to have information and/or pictures for the US Long Box release.
- And there are rumours about a West German 'PDO' pressing. 'PDO' stands for Philips DuPont Optical, a joint venture between Philips and DuPont Optical that was formed in October 1985 to manufacture compact discs. These releases can be identified when the inner side of disc says 'MADE IN W GERMANY BY PDO'. It also has (as PolyGram) no clear plastic hub around the centre hole, the aluminium disc goes all the way to the centre hole (solid hub). So my question is: does this really exist?
Would you all please again check your collection for me, and tell me what you have? That would be awesome! Other early pressings (Jacksonville, Swindon etc.) are very very much appreciated as well!
Thank you very much for your support!!!!
