Found something I had never seen today, picked up a copy of the 12" with 'Duran duran' written in blue and not in gold like every other copy I have seen. The 12" inside is the same with same pressing numbers etc, the label is lightly less distinct but otherwise same. Any one got any information, or got any other colours? Cheers!

Gold on the initial pressing was a 5th 'spot' color used in the printing process. Expensive. For the repressings, the blue was just CYAN to replace the gold spot color (in a CMYK offset printing process). Much less expensive.

What about the label being redesigned?

What about the label being redesigned? it's the same thing as the art work...it was cheaper to get rid of the multi coloured 'designed' labels and switch to a more basic 2 colour stock design. in most countries the releases went like that. the first pressing would come with a pic sleeve and then to save money, the label would switch to the stock sleeve.
