;D Anyway, I have to add that back in the '90s I got a great 200 plus page large format book called Tori Amos Collectibles, very much along the lines of your huge project (but on a smaller scale due to the shorter period covered), and at that time, as I looked over the pics of every permutation of each of her releases, I remember pining for a similar book for Duran Duran, but thinking "that'll probably never happen". Well, Derek, you've made it happen, so thanks for making my (and many other fans') dream come true! thanks to all of you for all the love and support! it means so much to me. and to be honest, i am trying to make the book that i've been dreaming about since i found out that records from different places could have different covers or different songs. i need to find that tori book. since i started working on legacy, it's been a little side hobby to collect books similar to what i am working on for other artists. so far i have some about : the cure, jimi hendrix, the beach boys, elvis and factory records/new order-joy division. i use them as inspiration to make my book even better!! and i am sad to say, that i don't think there is going to be a discount for the contributors :-( we talked about it, but logistically it's a really hard thing to integrate into the sale of the book. but it has been discussed and let's see what happens!! i just found a used copy of TORI AMOS - COLLECTIBLES on amazon for less than 10 dollars including shipping!!! thanks for the heads up on that one errbt!! i really enjoy tori's music and so does my wife, so this will be a fun book to look at!! It's a beautiful, well done book. You will definitely enjoy it. As for the "contributor discount", I think that was just a wishful but good natured joke", so no worries either way!

WOW!!
When we spoke two summers ago about this project, I had no idea that it was going to be the 'ultimate collectors book'. It's going to be the Duran Duran 'Stanley Gibbons of Stamps' guide. Awesome.
My late father wrote three books on Aston Villa football club in the 1980s and early 90s, so I have some knowledge about what it takes to publish a book. Trips to see the printers, proof reading, cutting deals, getting permission to use photos..hours and hours of hard work. I'm sure you have done much much more.
Best wishes and put me down for a copy.

But seriously! If the band are pushing for ultimate collector then a demo cd through the ages inc Dont look back and the arcadia track nick has would be cool.... as soon as you start adding cds to it, you bring another level of rights management into the project that delays it even more. any music is owned by someone. even demos. if emi paid any money towards recordings, even ones done at privacy are still open to a claim of ownership by the label. so you can't just slap them on a cd hully gully and then sell it. if the legacy book has a cd added to it, and that is a BIG IF, it will almost certainly have an interview done by a friend of mine in toronto back in 1982 at the time of the release of rio. that has no rights issues as i have the raw unedited for broadcast interview that has no music in it. and the band are pushing for the ultimate collector BOOK, so they don't care if it has any audio or not! derek...

LOL

LOL hi derek I am so pleased you are a Villa fan, they are hard to find these days LOL. Everybody seems to follow Man Utd. Even Simon Le Bon follows Man Utd!! That's a great photo of the band wearing Villa scarfs. As I mentioned to you before the scarf is the 'European Super Cup Winning' scarf, when Villa beat Barcelona over two legs in '83. Unfortunately I never had that one, as I was still wearing the main 'Champions of Europe' scarf of 1982 at the time. One cup I don't think Villa will EVER win again! When my dad retired in the mid 1980s he was lucky enough to go and work at the Villa on a part-time basis as the Archivist, answering letters, writing articles in the programmes and the official Villa magazine called 'Claret and Blue', plus the fanzine 'Heroes & Villians'. This was a few years after Duran played Villa in '83, but he did meet Bruce Springsteen and his band when they did their Villa gig in '87. The books he published were called 'Cigarette & Trade Cards', 'Aston Villa A Portrait In Old Picture Postcards' and a quiz book. He did many signing sessions with guest soccer players in local shops. Something I'm sure you may consider doing with your book, maybe a tour on the lines of John Taylor's with band members. Love to see you signing in Birmingham this year. Best wishes and good luck with your fantastic book, which looks like a masterpiece. www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1/280-2957535-4359309?_encoding=UTF8&field-author=Derrick%20Spinks&search-alias=books-uk&sort=relevancerank
