hello friends! i am really grateful for all the kind words about the book that all of you have shared. so i wanted to give you a little something just to show how deep the roots of this project go. i first thought of the idea of making a book that showed all the different vinyl from around the world in 1984! you think to yourself; 'man, that's crazy' and 'no way, he must just be saying that to be cool or to make duran time seem like a really big, mean joke!' well, i kid you not. in the back of the legacy book you will find a few appendices...one is for malcolm garrett, who surely deserves it. it's a little sample of some of his non duran work. as well, bootleg vinyl is in an appendix. it's so important to collecting, but unofficial, so putting it at the back is a good compromise. and finally you will find a small and concise history of the legacy book. just a couple of pages of the development of the book... i guess those images consist of some of the first graphic design i ever did in my life!! thanks again to everyone for all the nice words. it really makes me excited for it to move along!! derek...

Awesome! Are those typed sheets in the first pic your own listing of your collection back in the '80s? If so I think I've got you beat...I still have my handwritten lists from around that time! ;D Edit: Whoa, I see you've gone even a step further in the bottom left sheet, doing little artwork mock-ups of the albums! You win! Malcolm Garrett was also doing amazing work for Simple Minds at around the same time he was creating the iconic covers for the first three Duran albums. Great stuff, can't wait for this book!

hahaha. yes, typed sheets. i have handwritten ones too. and if i look really hard, i might even have the data cassette from my very first list of duran records on my commodore VIC-20, which i got in march 1982, just a bit before i got into duran!!
and yes, those fine cover drawings. wait til you see them in high res on art paper! LOL
malcolm did killer designs for simple minds. in total, he has three pages, so he gets more love. BUT that being said, if anyone here has more examples of malcolm's work (i only have sparkle in the rain, i think. i would love to expand his section to be more pages!!!
