I'm am complaining if I think a user is being "insulting and disrespectable" towards other users who have the same rights on this forum. Calling another user a "droan" is not acceptable to me. Maybe you have different standards? Graham - back to the issue at hand - we have yet to see a post from you justifying why you think posting current / ongoing Ebay links is beneficial to collectors here on the board. Please advise. Thanks. Thank you for NOT being insulting for once and speaking to me this time with some respect. The thread you have at the moment is a wonderful addition to this site, but there are other sites that also cater for EX-eBay sales for collectors to check on values. I do agree and have enjoyed reading users on this forum talking about rare items and discussing whether they are fake or genuine. When it comes to 'fake' items on eBay, collectors could post a comment and prevent people like me wasting my money if an auction is still 'in progress', instead of telling the world AFTER the sale! I live a busy life and any additional help in spotting items would be great news. The profile and membership of this site I believe would also grow if it was a tool for sellers to promote what they had on offer. The value of peoples collections would also grow as the market place expanded. New members of this site should ALWAYS be encouraged and NOT put down, even if they didn't know the 'unofficial' rule. The thread you have at the moment should certainly be renamed as EX-eBay, if that format is to stay in place, so preventing any more problems. Regards Graham

Well, I understand redmumba! What I don't understand is the meaning of this: "You could also open one titled: Redmumba, I can buy?" Would you please explain this... Very simple explanation. It seems that the Sig.redmumba, afraid that someone will steal a few items for sale. You probably think that everyone, buy only what you buy, him. So before you buy ask permission to Mr. Redmumba. That is ridiculous, and I think you know that! If you want me to take you seriously, then please give serious statements! I don't want to defense people, but as I said in a different thread: redmumba 'only' started the 'Ebay items of interest' thread, and the original idea was trying to help others to find items of interest on ebay before they were ending. It then became a thread posting only items that have already ended for reasons we should know now! It was not redmumba's decision as it wasn't mine as well. It was simply an 'agreement', which has grown! If I were redmumba I would slowly get tired of defending myself... as there is no need of defending! 'Nough said...

Regards Graham Graham - The point being made here is don't post live links to ongoing / current Ebay auctions - unless you happen to be someone who is selling off stuff (hence the - and I've mentioned this quite a few times - FOR SALE - WANTED subforum). Period. It's for the benefit of all the collectors here so that they can hopefully score an item without breaking the bank. If you have a question about the validity of an item on Ebay while it's ongoing, then the logical thing to do would be to pose a question here on the board. Any one of us would be more than willing to help out and answer. A majority (if not most) of the collectors here are pretty savvy when it comes to distinguishing between a genuine item and a fake. I'm well aware of sites like www.popsike.com and www.collectorsfrenzy.com, but these are strictly for vinyl and the Ebay Items of Interest is more than just about vinyl - and it's also the subjective opinion of the poster as to what they find of interest . What other site are you aware of that cater to items recently sold on Ebay? As for new members, usually it's customary for new members to introduce themselves and then have a poke around, read threads at the beginning and work their way through to see what it's all about, etc. It is the posters responsibility to do their research when reading a thread so that any potential questions they might have can be answered or to understand what a discussion is about. But I'll tell you what, just to satisfy a couple of people here, I'll edit my original post - not the thread title - so that it will be crystal clear as to what should be posted in the thread.

You still haven't sufficiently argued the validity of your case as to why attention should be drawn to ongoing / current auctions that others might have an interest in and would like to win without shelling out a lot of money for. Thing is, if you have time to visit this site and do posts, then you certainly have time to search Ebay and mark things to "watch" - and I'm sure the same goes for everyone else here. Basically, don't ruin the bidding experience for others. I'm sure that's something everyone can agree on. With regards to the comment about people introducing themselves - it's not one of my unofficial rules, just common courtesy to let other forum members know that there's a new member and to learn a bit about them. Do you find this practice disagreeable? If there is anyone who has the final say in this matter it would be the admin and owner Mark. But the poll and points being made in this thread might factor in to his decision.

just to be clear, that's an unofficial rule of any forum on the internet.
it is always customary to say hello when you are new on a forum. and the reason for this is to stop people from jumping in and self promoting or advertising willy nilly with their very first post.
which is exactly what happened here. a new poster came and posted an ebay listing that may or may not have been his own. no matter, as he is not the first and surely won't be the last. but the essence is the same. if that person (or any other new person) would have jumped in with a 'i'm new here' post and then posted they had something for sale or on ebay, i'm sure the intensity of response might have been less.
and i might add, in the interest of keeping this civil. some of the posters here are not english as a first language speakers. i noticed that there was some misunderstanding about one of the new poster's quotes : "Redmumba, I can buy?" i think he is trying to ask redmumba sarcastically if it's ok for him to buy it. in any case, if you have a point of view, we want to hear it. but i don't want any disrespect or hostile behaviour. the rest of the internet is rife with it. let's keep our little corner rather more sane!!

Perhaps the point is that this place is supposed to be a community.
Now, with this type of community (given that there's no major commercial interests involved &/or a dictatorial leadership), rules get established through consensus, as that's what makes it the community it is...
(excepting, of course, where something is happening that threatens the entire community - so, for example, download links to bootlegs & stuff used to be allowed openly on here but that stopped around the time that dd.no shut down d.t. legal threats from the band's expensive New York lawyers)
...so 'if' it actually transpired that the consensus viewpoint was, as a result of this poll or whatever, that links to active auctions should be allowed (& Mark didn't make an executive decision to the contrary) then, whilst i wouldn't be happy with the outcome, i'd have to live with it...
...& i could always choose to leave the community &/or attempt to set my own one up that could act under my rules if i wasn't happy with it.
Well, as has been pointed out, they were originally that they were allowed - however the community consensus changed that...
[Edit]
i wasn't suggesting that anyone *should* leave - i was simply meaning that it was a choice that i'd need to make for myself if i wasn't happy being part of a community.
[End Edit]
As to introducing oneself, whilst i think it's going OOT, most people do in this type of online forum.
Going even further OOT, that said, i don't believe that i personally did here...
...but then i guess i knew that lots of fans at least knew of me, for better or worse, d.t. the controversy that had occurred, as being the somewhat crazy guy from dd.no who had x amount of tech skills & constantly argued that stuff that's either free on the internet or TV or radio or whatever, or not actually available to sensibly purchase, should be archived & made downloadable for nothing...
...well, whilst in the pre-internet days there was no choice, i'm anti profiteering from bootlegs, & it seemed like a decent solution so that fans were neither technically, geographically or economically disadvantaged when it came to being able to get hold of random stuff.
(i got far more enjoyment actively sharing things than i ever have in building up an archive of stuff for myself, but such is life)
Accepting that it can be choice as to whether to do so or not though, it's still reasonable to expect new members to actually look at how things work before posting - & particularly before trying to change the ethos of the community to their liking.

Good points, well made. i agree that it doesn't help either side of the argument if there's name calling or, as Figital's said, not making allowances for English not being someone's first language...

>> Tbh, i'd also prefer it if people only used that for private sales - though maybe that's just me... i agree with this and the other point you made PD. that being said, in the past, if i have found a BUY IT NOW listing for something rare or cool that i already own, i have shared it here simply in the hopes that one of you would get the item in question. i don't think that it's the same as posting live auctions. but if anyone disagrees, post it here and i won't do it anymore. but i feel that posting after the fact is good to give people an idea of the value of things as they sell. whether we like it or not, collecting has an element of competition to it. we all try to be cool here and get along, so keeping the live auction links out is ONE WAY we can keep a certain level of harmony in this section. what does everyone else think? 100% completely agree. BIN fine and after values very useful and i like it when others get bargains.
