And you know what? I would prefer that than to have them trying to capture the dance floor crowd. I feel that their strongest songs are the ones that are more indie/alternative. But I still find it puzzling that JT and the band were displeased with AYNIN because I think it does lean to a more indie/alternative sound. Still upbeat and contemporary, but not mainstream. I'll put it this way: AYNIN was definitely not trying to chase the latest pop trend and was all the better for it. And if JT wants DD to be more indie, then he's going to be miserable since Nick wants the band on the dance floor. The band were displeased With AYNIN? What did I miss...?

JT was quoted saying that in a small interview (can't find the link). But maybe he was not quoted correctly. I remember reading it and immediately doubting it. Maybe there were other sources (maybe in the Katy's interviews) but I don't think so.

"Safe" & "Tempted" are why that statement scares me. I'm with you there, I felt exactly the same. For me 'Safe' was easily the weakest track on AYNIN, and an album of songs like it would tip me over the edge. - G.

I couldn't believe it either. It was a quote from this Duranasty article: linkHere's the quote: "I think the important thing is that we make a great album an album, something that impress people, because I don’t think we all feel that way about the recent album, we all got reservations about it..." I thought perhaps JT was talking about RCM when he said it, but no. When I questioned the authenticity of the quote in the thread here, the writer of the article PM'ed me to confirm that JT did indeed say that about AYNIN. Are they really that oblivious that they don't know AYNIN has gotten the most positive feedback in a very very long time?

I thought 'Safe' was a great track personally, very Blondie, very upbeat without sounding OTT. Sure I thought Runway Runaway was trying too hard but if the next album was 100% modelled on 'Safe' I would be happy - but it wont. My guess (with the noodling of John Fruscante and Youth Choirs) is they the will blend moods together. Reading the article it sounds like JT was hinting the songs will be mixed like a mix-tape, blended like Abbey Road Side B, with perhaps a few echos and reprises here and there, to create a work of art - rather than a bunch of odd tracks stuffed onto an album, like Pop Trash.
'The Dance Floor' may or may not be a reference to modern black-hole 'dance' music, and if the album tried to be contemparary like RCM, or 'dark' like Medz and the recent Amnestry covers fiasco, then it is headed for little success among fans. With stoners like Mr Hudson on the case it may very well turn out to be.
I dont think DD will get any radio airtime even if they produce Rio part 3, so they may have given trying for commercial hits. This is the predjudice of radio stations rather than their tallent of course, and veterans of the music business (Bowie, Blondie, etc) should be allowed airtime on national radio stations by law! Im sure if Tina Turner or Cher came back with a hit the stations would be happy enough, why not DD?

Safe is great, agreed, an album of pop dance should be a good thing, as long as its not an album of Bedroom Toys!

I also assumed that quote attributed to JT from Duranasty's site was from a few years ago in relation to RCM, not AYNIN. If it IS in relation to AYNIN, and not RCM, then that proves that John Taylor at least does NOT visit many Duran Duran related fansites. Not that there are too many left mind you. Because AYNIN has by and large been heralded as their best album since the 80s, and rightly so. It only has a few dodgy tracks, and quality-wise some of the great tracks on the album could sit proudly on Rio. For John to say he felt it didn't impress people, well quite honestly he couldn't be more wrong. It impressed a lot of fans, a lot more than RCM or Astronaut did that's for sure. Which means the band won't be reading this thread. Which means I can also agree that their attempts at contemporary dance music suck, and that an RCM part II would also suck, and theoretically it won't offend a single soul. (Except for the poor people who feel if you criticise Duran Duran then by extension you are also criticising them - they'll probably take plenty of offense from that. It's fine to disagree with what I wrote, many people do, just don't take it as a personal attack when I criticise the band and not your beliefs personally )

I think it was in an article not too long ago that he was talking about it. I, too, recall that he vaguely expressed disappointment in it.

Salvo from Duranasty was nice enough to reach out to me when the article was originally posted (around Feb/March this year) via PM:
Seems pretty definitive he was talking about AYNIN if he said it in Oct/Nov 2013.

If they do tracks of the calibre of 'Get Lucky', I shall be mighty excited. Nile won't let them release grooveless music.
