I've heard the rough recording of Tabula Rasa and it is a delight. Would've liked hearing a completed or cleaner version of that at some point!
Magic Pill was an interesting listen as well, if I recall correctly. I was able to get those off of a torrent site that hosted all sorts of rarities around 10 years ago.

Can you post links to Magick Pill and Tabula Rasa? Would love to hear these. Had no idea these demos were available. What do they sound like?? I am very weary of posting anything that could be against the rules of this forum. What I can tell you is that these demos are pretty hardcore, rough guitars, but a little more FUN than the Medazzaland album.. more in line with "P.L.You" and "Sinner Or Saint" actually. pm then?

I remember reading an interview, back in october 95 (roughly), and Johnwas talking about Medazzaland (that was the first time i've heard/read the name of the album) and he said that is was going to be "a cyber punk electro album".
Around 95 and 96, i heard for the first time PL You, Plastic Girl and another one... and i was like WTF?! where is the cyber electro stuff? Those demos where so below any Duran standard, i was so relieve they never made the album.
Back in 97, i was part of the "Medazzaland Defenders"... LOL. Even with its flaws, and don't knowing where they were heading (the influences where all over the place, Oasis, Beck, Kula Shaker, Garbage... so many different musical directions) it was mostly fun.

OK - leats clear something up.... "Plastic Girl" was not a song for Medazzaland. It was a little rough bit they made up on the spot on MTV Wanted in April 1995 for the host who's birthday it was. She used to dress in plastic a lot... it was just a little diddy they were working on... was not an official song. now back to the album... The album's original name in 1995 was being touted as "Trance-Punk". Then by 1996 it was changed to "It's A Whole New Ball Gown", then again by summer 1996 we heard the title "Medazzaland" for the very first time.

Seriously, positive surprised Let me confirm that 'Plastic Girl' was not a real song. As you said, it was simply an improvised song called 'Plastic Girl' because 'Naughty Nina' (from MTV's Most Wanted) was wearing a plastic suit in the studio that day. now back to the album... At that time it was already completely quiet here in Germany regarding any news from the band! Several years later, I learned a lot (and I am still learning) about the story of MEDAZZALAND due to the internet and especially the fanzine-issues which were online on Warren's site. These were too cool. Now the account has been suspended! Anyone? They have been here: --- www.cuccurullo.tv/archive.htm--- only can find this now, which is not much of help: --- www.fanhistory.com/wiki/Privacy--- Regarding these instrumental demos, don't worry, they *are* out there. Me and lots of other fans have them, and I am pretty sure you won't get into any trouble if *you* share them! I remember that the band was not amused when they get shared back then, but now they are 20 years old.

I remember all the potential song titles, was so excited about Medazzaland! this was the era of intelligent songwriting, unique ideas, pushing against the status quo... an amazing time... oh and the live shows sounded better. Joe Travers and Steve Alexander are way better than Roger Taylor... why do you think they play a 4-on-the-floor basic drum beat during "Too Much Information" now? Because Roger can't play it! (Dom can't either - all critical guitar parts are watered down to basic chords). Joe and Steve also hit the drums much harder which gave the songs more energy. Dare I also say Wes's bass I liked better than John Taylor? It was deep, rich in tone, he had a very unique style, which I loved.... I do love JT though too, but for different reasons. so yea...

People Like You would have weakened Medazzaland which is as close to perfection as an album can get. It is the rare occasion that I prefer the US/Canadian release to the Japanese version, because Ball & Chain isn't as good as the rest of the songs and just doesn't fit.
On an aside, I only have a live version of People Like You from a high quality bootleg. Is there a definitive version of the song as a studio demo that is in listenable quality? Feel free to PM me with the demo if you have it. This is my favourite duran duran era.

Dare I say we know it now? You are reminding us at least once a week. And this is nothing I am willing to discuss as we have totally different opinions, and I am honestly not much of a Warren fan. i was following everything like a hawk! I remember all the potential song titles, was so excited about Medazzaland! Song tiles, I have heard about the following: 'Swimming With The Sharks' became 'Big Bang Generation' 'Before I Die' became 'Out Of My Mind' 'Then Now And Everywhere' became 'Who Do You Think You Are?' 'Butt Naked' became 'Be My Icon' 'Can-Can' became 'So Long Suicide' 'Trippy Time' became 'Sinner Or Saint' 'Hollywood Girls' became 'Time Life' and finally became the unfinished and unreleased 'Tabula Rasa' 'Magic Pill' (also unfinished and unreleased) and then they are these: 'Got To Let Go' 'Lolita's Kiss' 'Aphrodisiac' 'Rosebud' 'Amnesia' any idea if they became something we have already heard about?
