They need their music in a commercial They have, or do you mean their current music? One of the smartest things U2 did was the iPod commercials. It inspired people to buy the special U2 iPod (I did). They also included a certificate to download the entire collection including unreleased music. Yeah I mean new music in a commercial...a commercial that takes off. It still really seems to work. I was reading recently that lesser known artists got some youtube hits and sales from commercials. Cat Power had a song in a national Zales commercial at Christmas time that was played every 10 minutes...the searches on the song and her hits went up. xxxxxx Van Etten had a song in a national Corona commercial...she said the attention it got her was incredible. Same for Belle and Sebastian in a hotel ad. Not sure which PG song would work though...but a successful commercial seems more than ever like a way to push your music.

Yeah there is a song that I've seen in several commercials and it's catchy. I think it was Ready To Go. I just looked it up it's called the Walker. Same with that other song by Mackelmore and Lewis. Those songs were everywhere. I hear more new music from commercials than I do on the radio.

Skinburn do you mean the game or the show? I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the game as I'm English. I'm talking about half time in the match. Where the featured artist plays a 'mash up'. I just think it's pomp. It doesn't matter who is performing. I love Michael Jackson but I think people are too excited by the match and fan fair to appreciate the music. Yeah they tend to do medley's. Some of the performances have been amazing but many were pushing the envelope which to me doesn't belong at the game. I don't want to see anything political or anything not related to the music.

The band could pull off a medley if they wanted to (ex. 2004 Brits), but the halftime shows do seem to be reserved for relatively bigger acts in this day and age unless you’re an elder statesman of some sort (McCartney, Stones, The Who, etc.). I doubt DD could get on there by their own accord, although I do think it says a lot that they’ve been featured in pre-show performances on at least two occasions.
That and these shows tend to not be live aside from the vocals (and maybe a guitar). Again, the band has experience there, but it does take a bit away whenever I watch the thing.

From another board...
Take a look at their iTunes sales this week. This is from an SB50 follow-up article from Forbes: "Flash forward to Monday morning, and Coldplay is already reaping the benefits of the international gig: According to data Forbes compiled: As of 7 a.m. PT, Coldplay has 11 songs on the iTunes top 200 songs chart with ”Adventure of a Lifetime” at No. 2, “Viva la Vida” at 8, “Paradise” at 10, “A Sky Full of Stars” at 26, “Fix You” at 30, “Hymn for the Weekend” at 33, “Clocks” at 38, “Yellow” at 50, “The Scientist” at 87, “Up&Up” at 156, and “Speed of Sound” at 172." Their latest album also surged on iTunes and it was released months ago. I think they did alright for themselves. When you're a musician, getting your music out there is the ultimate goal.

They still are a snooze for a live band--they are being compared to the Nickelback of the UK..ouch..they should not have played Superbowl--their songs did not fit the occasion IMO...
