If you want a potential preview for DD15, please stream the new Erol Alkan produced Ride album This Is Not a Safe Place.
Incredibly excited after hearing this album for a variety of reasons: 1. There is a real rock sound but with electronic elements. The first 6 songs are incredible; one of the best opening stretched I have heard in a long time. 2. It is a very modern sounding album that still retains all of Ride's classic shoegaze elements. 3. It is actually an improvement on Ride's previous (but also awesome) Weather Diaries, also produced by Alkan. 4. The album actually makes me think that Alkan would have been the perfect choice for Reportage: lots of guitar, dreamy soundscapes, Steve Albini-esque drums and cool synths. 5. I'm not even a huge Ride fan, but this album makes me want to work backwards through their discography.
Seriously, anyone who wants to get excited for what DD15 might sound like, go stream the new Ride immediately.

Agreed, this is a great album with superb production, and Weather Diaries is excellent too!
I recommend starting with Going Blank Again followed by Nowhere then Smile.

I discovered Weather Diaries when I first saw Erol's name pop up in relation to the new DD album. Superb album and I really hope it's this album that triggered (probably John ?) to ask Alkan as their next producer.
I gave the new Ride album a spin a few days ago. I like it but upon first listen I seem to prefer Weather Diaries. But hard to tell. Need to listen more.
Anyway, I discovered Ride this way and I like them enough to go and see them live in January when they play nearby. And it's only 20 € !

Yes, definitely start with Going Blank Again, then the early stuff, then Weather Diaries which had a companion remix album. I wasn't too hot on their Carnival of Light and Tarantula albums as they didn't have that shoe gaze sound, but I may need to revisit and re-evaluate them. I've listened to their new album once and thought it was good - will have to listen to it again to let some of the songs sink in and solidify in terms of an opinion.

Erol Alkan remixed two different versions of Depeche Mode's song Cover Me.

This one gave me a bit of a DD-vibe: Jump Jet gave me a strong Charlatans vibe and I mean that as a compliment . Really really like this album and it has got me very excited for DD’s work with Alkan.

Very Charlatans/Manic Street Preachers/Ride indeed (bands I also like). No Duran vibe for me though and nothing innovative, the sound and production are early 90s shoegazer. Hope they are not trying to recreate TWA because that will fail massively.
