At the risk of people having a go or telling me off, I hope the next album is much better than Paper Gods...Duran are capable of so much more. Completely agree. There are some elements of Paper Gods that are really, really good. But there are more bad points, and this drags it down to a mid-level album for me at best. I first got worried before they started recording, when Mark Ronson brought around a mix-tape of current music for them to listen to. That spelled disaster. Then when they brought in Mr Hudson, that iced the cake. Not even Ronson and Rodgers could save it; in fact some of their efforts were pretty underwhelming as well. Add the number of superior songs left off the album, and the number of songs butchered by their mixing and instrument choices, and it is another case for Duran Duran of "what could have been". I can't believe it took that long to get written and recorded, and that is what we finally got. But it's certainly not the worst album, and the highlights like Pressure Off (save for the crowd noise), Face For Today (save for the weak sounding drums and synth bass), What Are The Chances, Butterfly Girl, and The Universe Alone (save for the ending, which was horrible) are well-written and likeable songs. A couple of them even have a decent bassline!
Maybe it should be an album that sounds more like the classic Duran of days gone by. So if they did go down that road, it could be called 'Back To Our Roots' or simply 'Roots' I love that idea. A simple Duran Duran pop/rock album with plenty of funk mixed in is my preferred choice. Some guitar riffs and hooks, led by a great bassline, with basic keyboards just for atmosphere, is all I ask for. Keep it as simple as possible - let the songwriting and instrumentation be the hero - not technology. Record it, release it, don't tinker the life out of the record. Here's the problem - they did that with AYNIN. In my opinion AYNIN is easily Duran's best album from the past 30 years. No question. But the band didn't love the results, nor did they love the number of sales. So I can't see them rushing to do it again, even though every man and their deaf dog knows it's their strong suit. Here's another problem - for some strange reason the band think Paper Gods is the best thing they have done since The Wedding Album, in large part because in some countries it made it higher in the charts than everything since The Wedding Album. While they never seem to make the same album twice in a row, I think they like the idea of charting again, so I can see them doing everything they can to ensure this. And unfortunately - a Duran Duran back to roots album didn't work in 2010, so they probably won't entertain the thought 10 years later. We have got a much better chance of something that sounds like "Paper Gods Part 2" rather than "All You Need Is Now Part 2". But who knows what they will end up recording??? So I do want 'roots' (if I had a dollar...), but I don't think I will get it (if I had another dollar...)

duranfan - I thought you were going to say Scrapping the Barrel there for a second. If they were a rock band then 'Scrap Metal' might a good title.
Back to the Roots - A good title, but maybe it might cause arguments among fans who want different things. Funk, soul, pop, dance, rock, easy listening? If they go back to being a disco band they will seem not current. We all know rock is dead, so I doubt they will go down that root(!) again.
Spring, Summer or Fall, all you have to do is call. And I'll be there.. yeah yeah yeah, you've got a friend. I think "you've got a friend" might be cool.
Retro ReproRhodes? Black Tie Rejects?
How about "Q award winners!"

Had the epiphany last night... they should call the album... Rhodes's Motel. Kinda mirrors Morrison Hotel from the Doors. It could also imply that Mr. Rhodes is a megalomanic psycho who is running a regime of terror and suffering upon the neighbourhood. Its a nice link back to the doors, but not sure most fans would get the reference. I also had an epiphany last night. Why dont they call the album Available. Because fans are always saying "When's it going to be Available??". The time has come!

Judging by the comments Roger made on his twitter chat about the sound of the next album ("guitar; disco; bass and drums; band sound; organic; rhythm heavy" etc.) I for one am v v excited abt the new album and partic with the involvement of Moroder and reading btwn the lines, what I perceive to be Erol Alkan's intent to have a band sound and a sound that utilises Duran's strengths from earlier albums (bass and drums/ rhythm)..indeed, much like the vision Ronson had for AYNIN..
Having said, that here r some of my fun and silly suggestions for Album names:
DD15 vs CV19 F*** Off CV19 The Bomb Has Dropped So Start Dancing! Contagion or Pandemonium (or Virus!) Panic at the Supermarket #DD40 I'm not waiting any mor Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (UK) Yobadazizi as a coronavirus Chic Pistols Remodelled Remade Riggy and Zoxie play in Japan Life after ##DD40

so they are totally going for Daft Punk's last album... Nile production, Moroder. Disco. shit - any Pharrell collabs we can look forward to?
Maybe Duran is hoping to... GET LUCKY?
OMFG
but honestly, I like the disco stuff, they should never have strayed. Do I listen to Depeche Mode if I want Country Music? A-Ha for Hip-Hop?
For God's sakes, put out some synthwave, it's d**ned trendy - for now

Im listening to The Spinners ~ I'll Be Around 1972 on youtube, this is what the roots of disco sounds like, very simple, very touching. Reassuring. Comforting. No need for lyrics. This is what music could be about. Layers of instruments arent impressive to me anymore, when enough is enough. Get Lucky? is not a bad name for an album. I like the Straight Outta Hollywood (UK) idea too. Maybe something touching like "Mum would be proud of me". edit: with a Mothers Day greetings card slip case, so people can display the album all year round, as well as honour their parents and parenthood.

There is more time to think about names of the album... it is delayed to September. ;-) Peter, I just don’t see the album being out in 2020. They’ve stopped recording and this pandemic isn’t the best scenario
