My son is on a plane headed to chicago to see my mom. He's only 10, but he has wanted to fly alone "all my life". lol
I have to keep reminding myself that the most dangerous part of the trip was the drive to the airport!
The good part is that my husband was able to escort him to the gate and my mother will be able to meet him at the gate. Otherwise, I would have never agreed to it.
Thank goodness for online flight tracking, 'cuz you know I'm gonna be glued to it for the next 4 hours!

I hope there was a nice steward/ess on board...s/he could talk to your son and make the flight more relaxing.
The attendant came up to me on my connecting flight from Houston to Albuquerque last year...granted, I was 24/25 at the time but still nervous as hell when flying...
Your son will be fine.

I used to fly back and forth to England alot and you'd be suprised at the amount of children on the flight that were flying alone. The flight attendents were amazing with them. They always kept a close eye on them and even entertained them a bit when they had a free moment. I know it's nerveracking but I've seen it first hand and I think he'll be just fine. Plus, think how confident and proud he'll be of himself that he did such a "grown-up" thing all by himself!
Let us know how he made out.

Oh sweetie, he'll be fine. Right now my oldest (19 on the 24th) is running about San Francisco with her friend all by themselves. Huh. It's a wonder why I got totally crap-faced the other night.

Ha, I get the 'I've wanted this or that all my life' from my 7-yr old son also.
What an adventure for your little fella. I'm sure all will be swell.

He'll be fine. I just LOVE the online flight tracking! It is so cool seeing the flight in Live Time transit.
