I think Pretty Ones was my favorite from the collection of Astronaut unfinished tracks. All of them had potential and it is a shame they were never completed to the band's satisfaction. I'd love it if they would revisit and properly produce some of these tracks one day. Maybe include them with the best of Reportage or something...

Not a huge fan of Beautiful Colors, but clearly is better than at least 4 or 5 songs from Astronaut. TV vs Radio, another song that should have been in the album. But for me, the best one of that bunch is Pretty Ones. Can't believe they ditched that one.
All of those songs needed more work, but it should have worth the time, instead of wasting it with Bedroom Toys (the worst offender of the album, for sure) or One of These Days.
Salt in the Rainbow, on the other hand, needed A LOT of work, imo. You have one minute plus of a song that goes over and over for four minutes. But, again, better starting point than the finished version of others that made it to the album.

"TV vs Radio" - this is the most rollingstonesque track DD ever recorded and should be released!

I didn't say it was bad or that i didn't like it. I meant it needed more work, a C Part, something that makes the song evolves a little more. When you start listening its great, but after that 1 minutes and so, nothing new happens. That's what i mean. The melody is beautiful, is sooooo Duran.

And CB, with regards to that Simon quote, I misunderstood the context when I first read your pot before reading Cherry Lipstick's article. I thought he said that in response to what songs went on the album and which ones would be cut. But it makes sense that he would say that in response to their concert song list. I'm not excusing him for being crude or ungrateful to his fans, but I have to say I understand his frustration. You really cannot please everyone. And I can see the statement being said in a half joking manner, like you would with a buddy who's busting your chops. So maybe he said it at the end of an interview when he had let his guard down and got comfortable, or maybe it was said to a reporter whom he has known for years and felt like an old friend. Regardless, I get why you would feel a bit betrayed by him saying that so flippantly, but I can also see that it's the kind of thing where "you had to be there". Oh for sure Lou, like I said "There are some things you think, and some things you say". My issue is with Simon talking like that to somebody who is obviously going to report it. It doesn't matter whether Simon said it at the beginning of the interview when he was cold and bristly, or at the end of the interview when his guard was down and he had gotten comfortable. And if it was a reporter that he had known for years, then he would be confident enough to contact the guy and say "Hey mate that bit at the end about telling the fans to f___ off was just between you and me - do you think you could edit that for me"? The fact that it stayed in the interview, without Simon distancing himself from it, is very telling.
I don't care what Simon says to his his bandmates. Or his family. Or friends. Or anybody but me. If Simon is speaking shit, then I don't care and don't need to know about it. But when he gives an interview, and gives answers for the fans to read, then he is speaking to me. And to you. And to us! And pro-tip for Simon - don't ever say "f___ Off" to us regardless how much you mean it. Not if you want to keep fans and fancy cars and beautiful houses etc etc. Compare the following: 1) One day we won't play what everyone expects us to play. And afterwards we'll get people saying, 'you should have played that', all these really irate people, and we'll go, 'oh, f___ off, don't be so stupid, it's up to us what we play, and you damn well like it!' Or 2) We realise that a band with such a large body of work as Duran Duran will not be able to play everybody's favourite song at every concert. We also understand that people will be upset, or even angry at some song omissions from time to time. We can't please everyone all the time, but you know what - as long as most people leave the concert having had a great time, that is all we can hope for. Quiz time : Which of those quotes portrays Simon as an arrogant, uncaring, intolerant tosser, and which one as a level-headed, understanding, likeable person? Good manners are free, Simon me old mucker.

Hi Coolbarn, Just to offer clarity (and as explained in the introduction to the article in Cherry Lipstick via the link) this interview was with a fan who published it originally in the Dutch Go Duran fanzine. It was never published 'commercially'.
Not that that takes away from your feelings about what Simon said.

It was never published 'commercially'. Not that that takes away from your feelings about what Simon said. Thanks heaps for the clarification, I appreciate you letting me know. A small part of me thinks we could give Simon the benefit of the doubt? Unfortunately that small part of me is my heart, hoping that Simon Lebon isn't that rude, nor that stupid. But the rest of my body, including my brain, tells me that if you're a celebrity, you NEVER tell anybody anything which could incriminate you down the track. I'm sure Duran Duran talk like that when they're together. I'm sure they get sick of crazed, obsessed fans. I'm sure they like to vent about unappreciative people who continually want pounds of flesh from them. There is nothing wrong with that - it's human. I don't care if they call us "the most ungrateful group of F*cktards that God ever put breath in to" if they're talking to each other. However if you're Simon, and you're talking to somebody who isn't in Duran Duran, then never tell the fans to f___ off because they're upset you didn't play a particular song. Just be thankful that it's almost 40 years since your first single, and you still have fans happy to pay good money to listen to your music. You should be excited that people still know your songs and want to hear particular favourites - not disdainful. In 1984 it might have seemed like a curse. In 2020 - Duran Duran should consider it a gift.
