Just a small glimpse of what Liberty could have sounded like live Simon sounds great and Warren is on FIRE!!! (And he’s not even trying - almost expect him to stir a sauce in the kitchen at the same time - metaphorically speaking!) Jesus, they miss him. Sorry, I miss him. youtu.be/

What a shame that Sterling only plays on maybe two of the actual songs on the album. He sounds amazing on the clip.
Was that Chris Kinsey’s choice to use programmed drum tracks rather than Sterling? Why become a five piece again and then continue to rely on drum machines?

Imagine an an alternative universe where ‘Violence of Summer’ and ‘Serious’ were #1 hits and Liberty moved 1m copies... a 1990 - 1991 tour would’ve ensued, what would the set list have looked like? My call...we would’ve seen the Arcadia/PS dropped, and maybe other ‘hits’ brought back;
1. Violence of Summer 2. A View to A Kill 3. New Moon On Monday 4. Liberty 5. First Impressions 6. I Don’t Want Your Love 7. My Antarctica 8. Save a Prayer 9. Is There Something I Should Know? 10. Can You Deal With It? 11. Planet Earth 12. Serious 13. Notorious 14. The Wild Boys 15. Hungry Like the Wolf —- 16. Girls on Film 17. The Reflex 18. Rio

Why become a five piece again and then continue to rely on drum machines? Yep, you can see why Bowie employed his services. I know that Sterling got disillusioned with not playing on the album. I heard that was the reason he departed. I think it’s covered by John Jones in the interview on my site. I’ll have to take a look. The guy is an ace. I just hope that the band’s best years are not over. I fear they are. I love Roger - really nice guy and he is DD, but Sterling has the rhythm. The sound back then (even in this rehearsal) was so organic - and they sounded great together.

Violence of Summer being a lead single is one of the top 5 blunders of their career. Who the hell was working at EMI at the time that thought VOS has a chance? Or who was managing them?
Had Serious or an edited version of the title track been released as the first single, the album certainly would have had a different fate.
Also, JT alludes to a lot of personality clashes with Sterling in his book. Therefore, he may have been marginalized on purpose. After Warren, Andy and Sterling, it is very understandable why they have remained the core 4.
