I was listening to Spotify and checked out Andy’s solo stuff..
I still don’t get why I Might Lie wasn’t a massive hit? Great song, chorus, and Andy guitar work.. a shame this song didn’t go top 10!
It’s a great song...I’m sure Andy’s lack of solo taking off really brought him back to earth? Take it easy did okay but I’m sure the movie helped it out.. too bad this song didn’t take off!
Sometimes Andy the grass isn’t always green on the other side!!!

Because nobody was interested Andre! Lol
If DD were thrown to the dogs by the fans what did you expect would happen to Andy?.. who wasn’t even making music in the same genre as DD. Come on think about it?
That’s why he rejoined DD for one album. He was skint! Lol

Andy had the talent and drive but solo career fell flat! He didn’t come back Duran until 2001... that was 12 yrs of doing nothing and helping other artists ie Belinda Carlisle , Rod Stewart etc... Was it bad mgmt, Andy being lazy not sucking up to the label, lawyers, and corporate America? Hmmmm Just think had Andy did his solo and it failed he should have returned and imagine Duran as a 5 pc band again what could they have done? I wish they stayed together like U2... I think all the lawyers and in fighting took it’s toll on what was the fab 5. I wish Roger took a small break recouped while Andy did solo. And all get back to make another record. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be! I guess it got ugly with Andy during lawyers and Notorious record!

He was somewhat successful, 'Take it Easy' was a decent hit and charted at 24 spot in the USA and #1 on MTV. 'I Might Lie' charted at 17, 'Don't Let Me Die Young' at 36. So Andy did have 3 top 40 singles!
'Thunder' charted at 46, and sold roughly 350K copies, which for today would be amazing (and tops any DD album since Thank You).
So he was off to a 'good start', but honestly, it was 1987 and his brand of jock rock wasn't appealing to the wider DD base who had moved on to bands like U2, Depeche Mode, etc. Plus, Andy didn't tour the 'Thunder' album much in the USA or world. He played a handful of shows in the USA, Japan and that was it.
If 'Thunder' had come out in 1985, it would've gone platinum - in the same way 'Power Station' and 'So Red the Rose' did. Because anything Duran related in 1985 would done the same. But again, by 1987, it was over.
Andy then moved into producing, and he recorded that covers album on a whim per his book. He was supposed to produce it for someone, but then recorded it instead. His voice was completely shot on it lol... and he didn't tour it at all. Covers albums are a waste.
Andy just never committed to the solo thing. It seemed more like a monetary opportunity to him than an actual artistic and career direction. And that's why he didn't make it. If he had toured 'Thunder', playing 100+ shows worldwide, opening for bands like Def Leppard, Night Ranger, etc, bands in 1987 that were huge... 'Thunder' probably would've gone gold or even platinum. I just don't think he cared.

He pissed all the fans off. He split the band. That’s it. It’s in the history books. Why would he be successful ever again?

Reality is... Andy hasn't written a decent song since 'Thunder' album. The EP with Luke Morely was awful. PS 2 wasn't great. Astronaut sucked. All of Andy's 'demos' since 2007 or so have been lame. And his new song 'Love or Liberation' is 'ok' but nothing special.
Andy was integral to DD 1981 - 1985, no doubt there. Same with PS 1 and his first solo. But that was a long long time ago.

I mean his was health related but he still left. I wish Roger took a few years break and then returned! But he just couldn’t and it wasn’t until thank u and work on Perfect Day he felt some hunger to return!
