Q magazine is closing. Always specifically hated duran and never got a mention on the cover. Every review slagged them off and did a a stitch up job on thank you.....although the album did kind of invite it! www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jul/20/q-magazine-demise-signals-the-end-of-the-old-music-pressBizarrely set up by two smash hits writers which loved Duran and even more bizarrely gave an outstanding music contribution award in 2005 or 2006 to duran. I did like the magazine but really has gone downhill in recent years. While they hated duran, it did always appear to be an unpaid commercial for U2. Even there crap albums were lauded as masterpieces.

By making a ‘special’ out of their ‘review’ just escalated the fans discontent even further. I seem to remember the rag donating a whole page to ‘Thankyou’. I have the copy somewhere - will have to dig it out, give it its last rites and then cremate it.
Q must have been desperate for filler that month.
I read it like an obituary. Q knew the album was on its way and the article had already been written before it’s release. The album never had a chance in the U.K. after that. What a disaster.

Who would have thought that DD would have endured ,all these magazines compiled by the so called "serious music experts" ? I was an avid reader of Q ,from 1997 to 2009 ,then I grew tired of all this "idolisation" of bands like Coldplay,U2 and oasis and stopped reading ,saving myself from misery

And how did they review TWA, Medazzaland, Pop Trash and the post-2000 albums?

It’ll be a good talking point for the comments section! Lol I’ll let you know when I do find it.

I haven't read a magazine since the second my 56.6k dialup modem connected to Ozemail.
Anybody else surprised Q Magazine lasted even this long? Surely older, non-technological people, or traditionalists who have collected magazines for decades, can only take reading so much shit before they give up the ghost???

I never realized Q was so anti-DD. I thought it was mostly Rolling Stone. I always HATED RS for that and dreaded seeing an album review by them whenever DD would have a new album out.
It surprised me to read that former Smash Hits people started Q and then proceeded to bash DD! Maybe that's why they started Q in the first place! They hated DD and hated having to promote them positively, so they said, "I hate these bands and hate myself for having to write good things about them! Screw it! I'll start my own magazine and slag on them all I want! Who's with me?"
Although I have to confess I have bought many an issue of Q since they always had good articles about my darling Kate Bush!
Also, didn't Melody Maker also hate DD?
