As we are unpatiently awaiting news regarding new music, I quite enjoy reading about other fans experiences or preferences. So, to continue: What was your worst concert experience so far and why?
I‘ve attended approx. 20+ concerts to date, in countries such as Germany, Italy, UK and Ireland, the first one being the Big Live Thing show in Hamburg in 1988. My worst one was their only RCM related show in Cologne, Germany, in 2008. The concert was ok, but only ok. The audience was not really into it. The band seemed to deliver a routine/bored performance without my enthusiasm (although Yasmin was in the crowd). And this became one of my live events that didn‘t really stuck with me in a positive way.

Great post.
RCM is the only DD tour I didn’t go and see - while I was a fan from ‘89 to present day. I did buy tickets for Dublin as there wasn’t a UK tour, however the album just didn’t do it for me and I couldn’t be arsed to go.
Earls Court, London, December 1999 was the worst for me. Simon wearing those stupid Elvis glasses, the obvious glaring between Simon and Warren during the whole gig - it wasn’t a happy scene. The band really didn’t want to be there - to be honest it just fell flat and I couldn’t wait for the ‘show’ to finish. It was dreadful.

Did DD not tour RCM in the UK during the summer of 2008?
I've enjoyed all the DD gigs I've been to, and that includes those ones in the dying days of WaCu era Duran, but I do recall being exasperated at one DD concert as I was next to one of those moaning middle aged men who was obviously only there to placate his wife.

Did they? I can’t recall in all honesty. I’m trying to wonder why I would have booked tickets for Ireland if I’m on mainland UK. I’ll have to check now! Lol Edit: I just checked and there were indeed 4 dates in July 2008 - Plus a couple of festivals. Perhaps the dates didn’t work out for me. Or they sold out.

The “Latest & Greatest” tour the year before was pretty poor too. It just all looked a bit end of the pier by that point; when they did Hallucinating Ellis at Earl’s Court it was like they’d become their own tribute band.

Aye, I think this was the tour I almost missed as I was so used to DD Brum gigs being at the NEC, but I found out on the day that this one was at the NIA!

For me it was Pop Trash tour at Wembley, it just felt like the end, the whole band seemed fed up with it. I even said to my brother after the show that they should stop

All of the 20 or so shows I’ve been to themselves have been fantastic. Sometimes the crowd leaves something to be desired. Like the 2003 show in Detroit: I waited outside from about noon for a spot near the stage only to have three women come in about a fourth of the way into Duran’s set and squeeze in front of me, completely blocking the good view. Then there were the talking people in the crowd during the Paper Gods tour. Fortunately Duran has done pretty well for delivering a good concert experience. GA shows are few and far between now, and they play most songs loud enough to drown out the audience chatter.

In my case, having seen 7 shows, there was no such a thing as a bad experience. All if them were good for some reason.

Sure, there have been a couple of concerts where I wish John's bass had been turned up more. But even those nights were still exhilarating! Duran Duran are my thing. I would rather see a "bad" Duran Duran concert, than a good concert from any other band.
