They should release the two Moroder tracks now. That way, horrible dance music won't be on the album proper have you heard any of his horrible dance music? I wasn't aware he had anything that was horrible. He did the soundtrack for Midnight Express (though that was a long time ago), which I really like. He's done quite a few other things I really like too. I'm hoping for good things from him.

have you heard any of his horrible dance music? No. I don't like dance music. I'm not going to listen to Giorgio Moroder's dance music, simply because he's working with Duran Duran? It's not who - it's what! As long as Duran Duran embrace dance music, then I don't care who they work with. The whole style is NOT what got me into Duran Duran in the first place - it's music to shake your arse to, not embrace. To me it's a gimmick - much more style than substance. I'm very glad that it's only just a couple of tracks - there is a 95% chance I'll be skipping them, and a 5% chance that I will love them.
(If you're confusing me with batshit crazy sheep, who do a "one-eighty" and state they love a certain style of music or artist simply because Duran Duran have embraced it on their most recent album, then guess again ) I listen to Duran Duran for the experience - the experience of being taken away. I love Duran Duran to listen to, to absorb, to embrace. To lie back on my bed, or in front of my computer with headphones, and just analyse each new track. I love listening to the basslines, the drumming, the guitar, the keyboards, the melodies, the vocal melodies, and the songwriting.
Unfortunately, dance music tends to emphasise keyboards and thudding bass drum, and the majority of the other things I love in music, tend to get left by the wayside. So if Giorgio Moroder can actually make dance music palatable for me - ie not just make it keyboard-orientated, then I will be very impressed. But then it ceases to be dance music, right? The only style of music I dislike more than dance music is death metal. Although a special mention to current Hip-Hop, much of which is also abysmal. Duran Duran have tried two out of three, and are 0-2. Just waiting for death metal to become popular, so that Duran Duran jump on to that trend. Will be nice to hear Simon singing in a lower register again

Moroder is now in his 80s and into EDM, the kind nobody over here appreciates (think collaborations with multiple singers) ;-) But not sure how much of that is really his own hand or whether he just lends the Moroder “brand” to younger assistants. Don’t want to be ageist though. His latest album contains some tracks which at least hint at his musical past, eg this one:

If DD sounds like this on the next album I’ll be putting in my last orders at The Rum Runner in second life.

I'm glad it's only two EDM songs with Moroder. That gives John and Roger (Dom doesn't even get invited to the studio that day) plenty of time to get to the shops, buy the coffee, come home, boil the jug, pour the hot water, add the sugar, add the milk, stir, drink the coffee, wash the cups, dry the cups, then put everything away and tidy up, while Nick and Giorgio play in the studio. Unless the two tracks end up being like this, in which case I can't wait!!!

Morodor produced and co-wrote Blondie's Call Me, which is a great single and showcases what he can do with a new wave band.

Morodor produced and co-wrote Blondie's Call Me, which is a great single and showcases what he can do with a new wave band. He did some other pretty great stuff in the '80s too, like Berlin's "Take My Breath Away", Limahl's "Neverending Story", the original recording of Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" (even though I prefer the re-recording done with Nile), and his numerous collaborations with Phil Oakey. For this reason, I'm withholding judgment until I hear what they come up with. At the same time, I'm aware that (sadly) it's not the '80s anymore, and neither Duran or Moroder are consistently doing music that lives up to that of their glory days. Still, it put a smile on my face to hear that they were working together.

A guilty pleasure of mine is Donna Summer's Morodor collaboration I Feel Love. Not that Duran & Morodor will come up with anything close to that, nor should they.
But I think that anything they do with Morodor will be more disco than modern EDM. For this I'm hiding behind the couch, not sure what to expect - it could be great, but it could be pure mince.
