Is that the demo? I remember really liking it then hearing the turgid album version... same ole story. It seems to be a mashup between the album and a live version. Same happened to me. It was my favorite new song from the 78-03 Tour, great vocals and the guitar sounded very interesting (kind of a mid-eastern vibe). All of that got lost, and the production is very flat on the album track. From time to time, it surprises me that I tend to forget the existence of this song, considering I was crazy about it at the time. I prefer a good quality soundboard version from the 2003 tour (if I find one).

I LOVE this song. It brings out Simon’s voice in a very special way. Maybe he’s not the most skilled singer in the world, but I think his voice is spectacular. Love this video, by the way.

Maybe he’s not the most skilled singer in the world, but I think his voice is spectacular. This is some truth right here. A vocal coach would probably be quick to point out Simon’s flaws or technical shortcomings but there is just no one on the planet that truly sounds like him... and his sense of pop melody and harmony is unmatched. He’s really learned to write vocal lines that play to his strength and minimize his weaknesses.

His voice is beautiful also when he speaks. On the contrary, a lot of excellent singers lose their magic when you hear them speak

Excellent song - the live version from July 2003 in Tokyo is magnificent.
Remember that LeBon snapped a vocal chord in the mid-90's, and almost lost his vocals a decade ago. The work he did with the vocal coach really strengthened his voice and he's returned a great lead singer.
Otherwise, he could've ended up like David Lee Roth who struggles at times, or be much, much worse - like Vince Neil who has been unable to sing for several years now.

He sounds horrible live now!!

Yes, we are very lucky. All singers lose their voice eventually; fortunately Simon is a late developer

Bono has lost a step, too. 😬 Ann Wilson still sounds great.
