The covers designed by Malcolm Garrett were definitely one of the factors that helped the band's success. I remember that I find the design of these covers fantastic. The quality of Duran Duran's music had to have a "packaging" to match and that was exactly what Malcolm Garett's covers brought to the band. Too bad they didn't work with this graphic artist anymore, they never had such quality covers again. I would love if the band works with him again.

Definitely my favourite graphic designer in DD's history - his work with them from the first album through to Arcadia is sublime, can't fault any of it. I also loved Garrett's work with Simple Minds too, there's a definite similarity between their sleeves and DD's because of Garrett.
Interesting to discover that the last thing he did for DD was an enamel pin badge for Notorious before the band sacked him. I haven't seen this badge at all and I wonder what vision he had for the Notorious era?

One of the surprises for the celebration of the band's 40th anniversary, could be, for example, the relaunch of singles and albums from the period 81-85 with covers redesigned by Malcolm Garrett. And the covers of the new album and singles could also be designed by him.

“The last thing I did was a little enamel pin badge with the word ‘Notorious’ on it.”
Interesting. I have something similar-sounding. It was from a collection a friend and childhood Duranie had given me in the late ‘90s. I don’t know its origins and never saw another one, but I always thought it was the coolest thing. Pic TK.

Pic TK. it'll almost certainly be this badge design from the July 86 FC newsletter... ...though there's a 2nd mauve version which was on later sheets, before they then ran out & there was no badge at all - (images pinched from eBay)
[Edit]
As an aside, the listing i stole the images from is ludicrously expensive imho - as, unless you *have* to have one instantly for some bizarre reason, the badges normally show up by themselves a few times every year for a couple of quid or within lots... ...whilst, with the newsletter, it's probably at least 3 times what it sensibly should be.
(the only rare version is the one without the badge - so no pin holes in the corner)
Yeah, simply that, whilst we all make our own decisions about what something's worth to us, i don't want this to be read as any kind of endorsement of the price being asked.

That must be the last example of Garrett's work with Duran during the 80s, thanks for posting!
