Thanks for sharing Tin Enjoyed reading this interview and learning more about the history and process. They lost something when they let him go. I don't I've seen a copy of Rio with the sticker seal mentioned. I'm curious about it.. I loved how stuff like the "eye" from Rio sleeves (lower right) crossed over into the 1983 visual period. He did such a good job of adding mystery to DD, and certainly groundbreaking with tying in elements from their videos (and vice-versa).

I don't I've seen a copy of Rio with the sticker hem mentioned. I'm curious about it.. if i had to make an educated guess, i'd assume he's referring to this bit of the design as a 'seal' -
- though i've likewise never seen a copy where it was a physical piece of paper or sticker that actually sealed anything, rather than just printed on.
(again using bits of images from eBay - hence the colour difference)

I’d guess that too, and glad you chimed in with your collecting knowledge. I’ve never heard that the Rio album used a sticker “seal” on early copies.

Awesome interview, and super cool that Malcolm collaborated with Peter Saville for the My Own Way cover!

I think a bunch of promo copies in the large blue envelope were sent out with that seal on the back to close the envelope.

Ah, i'd not seen the back of that - so quite possibly what he's said was simply unclear, as it sounded like it was the LP sleeve itself.

Well unclear indeed if you dont know he means the seal on the back of the envelope... you had to break the seal to get the album out (of the envelope). So sad so few copies of this blue envelope have survived! I know promos were sent out in this blue envelope in Australia and Italy and i assume in the UK too although i have not seen UK copies yet.
