Roger is playing on LFL. The drums are different to the studio version. He hits the snare twice on each bar. At least that is what it sound like to me.

On the Manchester versión, the drums are per the album version but out of sequence.

I suspect there is a backing track but all musicians are playing live. Even Nick. Depeche Mode have been doing this for years.

Well, you must have excellent hearing! 🤣😁 If we are having to try to listen the band play their instruments live then there’s a problem. DD basically shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of their guitarists. You know, the two who were able to arrange music - especially Warren. When you play near perfect gigs from ‘87 to 2000 then the bar is raised and you’ve got to keep reaching that bar over and over. They get by - and frankly that’s not good enough for a supposed respected band. As for Depeche Mode? Martin Gore is a f___ing amazing guitarist. That’s key and makes all the difference. I’ve seen him up close, as recent as the last tour and every strum is noticeable. Contrary to what people might believe, it is possible to have a decent synth player, playing alongside a decent guitarist. DD have neither. Nick is a programmer who presses buttons. I could do it and so could anybody here.

Sorry, I meant in a live situation. One of the best gigs I’ve ever been to (2018).
