It really depends. I personally would love to hear Secret Oktober and Faster Than Light but doubt they would play them (though in 2001 I did hear Secret Oktober). Here's the thing, while we might be die-hard fans, concerts consist of a majority of casual fans, as in people who mostly like the hits. This is why we always hear HLTW or Rio. When they are selling an album they will play a few songs from that as well. Almost every song listed I have heard at least once, many of them I heard just on the tour for the album it's featured on. All true...but no reason they can't stick in one per night for the diehards... True, and they do but wish they did more. I was happy they did Friends of Mine and Nightboat.

The ‘97-‘01 tours added some great live tracks, including Secret Oktober, Late Bar, Anyone Out There, Friends of Mine, & perfecto version of Out of My Mind.
And I am sure this won’t be popular, but...the live Girls on Film from that era, with Joe Travers on drums, had way more energy...I like those versions more than the live versions I have seen with Roger.
My wife is not a fan and I have dragged her to five DD shows over the last 18 years. She admits they are really good live and White Lines is one of her favorites. It’s always a high energy number and it goes over really well live...would I rather hear a more obscure song? Absolutely...but I think my wife’s reaction is typical of the casual fans / attendees and that’s why the band keeps it in the live set, unfortunately to the exclusion of a b-side or rarity.

Great question. I know they stick to the hits in most gigs but they do drop tracks you’d never expect to hear again. Even in their last batch of gigs in 2019 tracks like Tempted and Astronaut came out of the blue. In answer to your question I’d say it’s highly unlikely we will hear My Own Way, I Take The Dice, Big Thing or anything off Pop Trash again. What I’d love to hear again and think may work is A Matter Of Feeling, Edge Of America and Tel Aviv.

Totally agree about Girls on Film - but that’s my feeling on DD ‘live’ generally. People can provide all the You Tube links they want of recent tours - it’ll just reinforce what I already know. Joe Travers, Sterling Campbell, Fergus Gerrand and Steve Ferrone were all fantastic drummers. I think I may have missed one out? I’m not saying Roger isn’t a fantastic drummer. I’m saying he doesn’t work hard enough to produce a drum sound that I’m used to! Lol I can honestly say it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest if I never attended another DD show - certainly the way the personnel is set up right now. I’ve seen over a hundred DD gigs so I think I’ve had my fair share!

I’ve seen over a hundred DD gigs so I think I’ve had my fair share! Steve Alexander drummed on the brief Thank You mini tour and the ‘97 tour. It’s a mixed bag for me. The shows with Andy I saw in 2005 were as good as any I’ve seen (17 shows from ‘97- present, 8 pre-reunion, 9 post). I mostly enjoyed the set lists better in the ‘97-01 era. But the energy (overall, with the crowd) has been better post-reunion. MSG in 2005 was magical (went by myself- I live a 90 minute train ride away - bought an over priced floor seat on eBay at the last minute). Truth be told, the double bill with Chic is also up there for me (I know we don’t agree on this, aside from the wretched version of TMI). Loved Chic and loved the DD set.

Visit to the bar/toilet during White lines. Same set list. What I definitely would go and see is a rarities gig at a smaller venue, like they did a few years back, playing songs they hadn’t done live for years or even at all.

I've no great hankering to hear Land, Undergoing Treatment or Sin of the City live.
Its fair to say that whenever they tour, they always drop in the odd fan request. I remember a few years ago there was a push for them to play NMOM, and they did - with Love Voodoo. I know when I first heard it from the roof (almost) of the Manchester M.E.N, I was blown away.
Lets also not forget that each tour is meant to be promoting some new material from the latest album, e.g. Paper Gods Tour. So there is always a whole load of new songs bookended by some of the classics. I know back a few years ago, even the band admitted that most of the audience were people who just wanted to hear HLTW and Rio. But today I'd say almost all of their audience at shows would be fans - and frankly they dont care - they are there to see the band. Its hard to please everyone when its "oh, they didnt play Careless Memories, Im gutted.".
To be honest I got bored with SAP fairly quickly, and I've heard it so often its actually one of my least favourite songs now, along with Wild Boys and White Lines from the sets. I never get tired of hearing any of the others. The banter before SAP is also "oh look, someone died!", and is a bit of a downer.
Of course with a two hour set, they could remix a whole bunch of songs and jam their way through two hours of heavy dancefloor fillers. But because the audience are seated and cant dance or do anything these days at venues, its no fun just sitting there listening to it. They'd also have to play over backing tracks to keep the timings and cover the changes.

All luxury problems. I don't care about the setlist, would be nice if they would actually do a European tour. But now with covid they first have to catch up with the revenues they lost so it will be US, US, US and a few festivals for 2022-2023. The 2021 Summer shows will be cancelled no doubt. All major German festivals have just been cancelled for 2021. I'm starting to care less and less. Visited the official site today, had been a while, and prominently on the opening page is the ad that the new album Paper Gods is out now, including the single Pressure Off....
Five Years disappeared very quickly from my own playlist too.
On topic: I would certainly not be pleased if they did perform and played a set list heavy on 1988-1990 and 1995-2000 material. Don't care for the big hits live like SAP, Reflex, GoF, OW, Rio etc, but I'd rather hear these than Hallucinating Elvis, Violence of Summer or Undergoing Treatment.
