Yes, the mix that we got of Medazzaland is pretty bad, IMO. A Spike Stent mix would be pretty amazing, but I don't see that happening. I'm not sure how much Spike charges or how long it would take but I don't see it being a profitable endeavor. Also doubtful, but maybe the band would consider a crowd funded effort to cover the costs? I'd buy in.

Count me in with that other forum member who might not be that bowled over at the idea of a Medazza remix, mentioning the case of Bowie's Lodger album. Just as in that album's case, this album's sound is part and parcel of its music and coolness. Medazzaland is a typical late-90s art-pop album, dark, seedy, scratchy and grungy being the sonic reflections of the times. I would of course welcome a curio remix if it were to be done, but I wouldn't suggest for a minute that Medazza's sound as it stands is unintendedly so. I've been enjoying it like that since the day it came out, and intend to continue doing so.
OTOH, I'd be actively curious to listen to the Ken Scott mixes of Pop Trash.

I wonder to which extent a remix of Medazzaland is even possible. If Nick's story was true and not just some promotalk-invention to generate more cloud, the m@stertape of TV Mania had been impossible to find for about 15 years ! So where is all the source material for Medazzaland ? This was recorded digitally at Warren's place.
If they couldn't find the mixed m@stertape for TV Mania then maybe the multitrack sessions for Medazzaland are lost forever.

I just wish they so much as reissued the original cd worldwide (but of course "CDs are dead" now). Not a vinyl maniac, but a Medazzaland LP would be perfect for its duration and meant-for-LP tracklisting as well as the enlarged cover art. But seriously, no limited-crap-for-extra-bucks BS - just a well-pressed regular LP for the masses (incl. a digital download) would be more than enough for a start.
Of course I'm not averse to a deluxe-anniversary-whatever version, but I'd way more prefer it on a (digipak/digibook) cd in that case.

Glad to know our friends across the pond can finally listen to this album! LOL!
It's without a doubt my favorite Warren era album. It's not a perfect album by any means, and most songs with a few exceptions only ever hover around the ranking of a 6 for me, but I think it's got some real solid songwriting in there throughout. That's what had struck me with this one. It was consistently good to pretty good, never dropping to a bad level for me. I definitely can't say that about several of their other albums!
My love of DD music had been in a slow decline since Big Thing/Liberty, so I wasn't really jumping at the chance to even bother listening to this album when it came out. I was in a little bit of a funk around that time as well. But I was surprised when I finally began to listen to it. It wasn't an earth-shattering revelation. But it was surprisingly ok--nothing that made me cringe (too much) or run to the skip button. And the more I would listen to it, the more I would grow fond of it.
I do think the production is a bit muddy in a lot of the tracks, especially on something like Be My Icon and So Long Suicide. And Nick overdoes his beep boops in Electric Barbarella and Big Bang Generation. But even with my criticisms, there is much for me that I enjoy.
My standouts are Midnight Sun (album version), WDYTYA, Be My Icon and So Long Suicide. I prefer the album version of MS over the demo--I feel the demo sounds a bit generic, especially with its more standard structure with its middle 8 guitar part. The only song I skip completely is Silva Halo.
Overall, I think the album felt very "alternative", which I preferred over their attempts to be more pop in previous albums. This to me, felt like a DD that grew out of the first 3 albums which I never really considered true pop. I definitely feel the first is really an alternative album. The second, yes, it's more pop/rock, but definitely has an alt edge. And 7 I think is pop/alt, with heavy Bowie/Ferry influences. So I imagine Medazzaland is the album that the DD from 1981-83 would be doing in 1997, the DD that never made the left turn into funk pop of Notorious, or house of Big Thing, or whatever else they skirted with in the subsequent albums.
This album perked up my interest in the band again. It was the last concert I went to of theirs, and even without John (who I didn't even realize had officially left the band at that point!), I thought they performed exceptionally. Like I said, it wasn't a perfect album, but I felt they finally had turned a corner and were headed on the right path, away from contemporary pop.
What it actually did was raise my expectations a little too much, so I was highly disappointed with Pop Trash. Not that they went pop, but simply that I just didn't like it right off the bat.
So anyway, yeah, love Medazzaland.

He was at the epicenter of late 80s House: And the Liberty demos out there on YouTube (Didn't Anybody Tell You?) are interesting but never held the same potential as the Astronaut demos. Worth Waiting For is the only song worth revisiting. And someone can correct me, but I thought they got the masters (or rights) to Medazzaland when they left EMI. Therefore, I don't think a proper mix or redux would cost them that much. Something is off in the production or mix that detracts from album.

And the Liberty demos out there on YouTube (Didn't Anybody Tell You?) are interesting but never held the same potential as the Astronaut demos. Worth Waiting For is the only song worth revisiting. I think the Liberty Demos do have great potential because when Liberty was released, it didn't perform very well. Personally, I chalk that up to the production. I wish they would revisit this album and redo it - take out unnecessary overdubs, etc, etc. Or they could do what Saint Etienne did for their first album "Foxbase Alpha" where they reissued it as "Foxbase Beta" where the whole album had gotten a makeover.
