I wonder to which extent a remix of Medazzaland is even possible. If Nick's story was true and not just some promotalk-invention to generate more cloud, the m@stertape of TV Mania had been impossible to find for about 15 years ! So where is all the source material for Medazzaland ? This was recorded digitally at Warren's place. If they couldn't find the mixed m@stertape for TV Mania then maybe the multitrack sessions for Medazzaland are lost forever. Good point. I would think the Medazzaland stuff should have been archived by Capital or EMI since that project was under contract while the TV Mania stuff wasn’t. I think Nick found the TV Mania stuff in one of his storage places but if I recall correctly they weren’t multi tracks...and they had to be transferred or something I can’t remember

Talking of Bowie, I quite enjoy the Harry Maslin mix of Station To Station. The vocals are particularly clearer and instrumentation is also less muddy. Liberty, Medazzaland and Pop Trash could all do with a remix. Someone Else Not Me is a nice song but is too slow. Speed it up a few BPM and it would be brilliant. Same with Playing With Uranium. Some songs are purely crap though. Hallucinating Elvis is awful

I've just been listening to Someone else not me- what a dreary 5 minutes that is. I've not been brave enough to play Lava Lamp or Hallucinating Elvis You mention the duds there - the best are Playing with Uranium, Poptrash Movies and Mars Meets Venus. Fair point... I have played those tracks plus Lady Xanax- not classics, but perfectly listenable to.

Two tracks on PT that I really like are Starting to Remember and The Sun Doesn't Shine Forever. not quite sure why the latter gets a beating when it comes to reviewing the whole album.

God, you’re right! Just listened and was waiting for the chorus of Everything I do to kick in.

STR is ok but the latter is a Bryan Adams rip-off (thanks to Natural Born Duranie for pointing it out! Lol)

Great write up @skinburn and spot on context for Medazzaland’s release. Having said that, I like it better than The Wedding Album. No doubt we will disagree, but such is the beauty of our fandom. Big Bang Generation and Midnight Sun are all time DD favorites of mine and I like both better than pretty much any track on TWA (granted, I am sick of OW because I have played it to death). Electric Barbarella is the closest any DD song from ‘86-09 got to the “classic” early sound. Be My Icon kicks ass. OOMM should have been a hit - a natural mid tempo successor to the OW power ballad. Michael is a beautiful ballad. I didn’t much care for Silva Halo until I heard it live at the 2001 tour - it was actually ready good. The title track suffers from SLB’s writer’s block - a shame because it’s a great piece of music with a signature JT bass line (one of the 4 songs he co-wrote before leaving). Undergoing Treatment is the closest the album veers to funk, and it’s a great album closer with a biting lyric. So Long Suicide is a powerful song and (to me) the lyrical sequel to OW. There is a chunk of TWA I find forgettable - Drowning Man, Shotgun, Femme Fatale, UMF - and another chunk that is good but not great (TWIMC, Love Voodoo, CU, Sin of the City*) I like much more of Medazzaland and it holds up way better to me than TWA (and I have played both to death). Anyway - glad to see Medazzaland finally available. *I know Sin of the City is sacrosanct on these boards. All I can say is...I like it just fine, but I don’t love it. Thankyou! (Love that album 😉) Yes, I know we have our differences but at least we have mutual respect. It’s not a battle. I’m glad Shotgun is there just for the guitar riff at the end. Heavens above, did I just write ‘guitar riff’ on a DD forum? But I get your point.. however it does segue into Come Undone. In fact you could pretend Shotgun is Come Undone (part 1) - similar to what Pink Floyd did with Another Brick in the Wall. How would that sound? Good, that’s sorted! 🤣 I’m really happy that all the albums are now available for streaming. It now means that there is a lot more to choose from in Duran’s repertoire. Music listeners who have never discovered a CD (and probably think it’s spelt ‘seedy’) will now stumble on Duran’s experimental phase and, who knows, may just enjoy it?

I always thought Shotgun was a bit of an album filler, much like one of the interludes from Big Thing - a little musical "ditty" that was just there to fill some time. Having had TWA months before it's commercial release with the original track list, Shotgun really worked as a great segue to Stop Dead, but placed in front of Come Undone it's a bit clunky.
