www.duranduran.com/wordpress/2021/duran-durans-all-you-need-is-now-turns-ten/Well, ten years for the physical release! This album, for me, is up there with the very best of output from Duran Duran, and it really showed that the band can still do it in that post-reunion era. It was a welcome return to a more organic sound for Duran Duran after the overproduced Red Carpet Massacre was a bit hit and miss, with many of the songs on AYNIN evidently created in a more natural fashion with a five piece band jamming and writing together and then having the fruits of their labour fine tuned and polished by a producer who really got what DD should be sounding like. The absolute highlight for me was The Man Who Stole A Leopard, which really tapped into a story in my life that was unfolding at the same time and wrapped it up in Chauffeur-coloured giftwrap, proving that you can indeed look back musically and make it relevant and wonderful too. But there was so much more there too - I actually like the jarring synths of the title track, although I appreciate I may be in the minority in that one. Blame The Machines, Being Followed and Before The Rain are all tracks I love too. And one thing I always reflect on is that I think for once they got the choice between album tracks and the extra tracks right. The best songs were indeed on the actual album. Their best reunion era album, and up there with their best of all time.

Very good album indeed. Songs I really appreciate still are Being followed, Too bad you’re so beautiful, Girl Panic, and several of the bonus tracks. The title track is mwa, and never got the Leopard hype (that’s a skip track for me, always has been).

Fantastic album, in my top 3 Duran albums. Played it the other day and I like it as much now as I did 10 years ago
Leopard is one of my all time favourite Duran songs

The 9 track digital release was pretty close to perfect; had they chosen TBYSB instead of Safe, I would rank it top 3 DD album of all time.
The songwriting is so consistently strong through the digital version; the extra songs that pad the physical release (TBYSB withstanding) are the definition of filler. It reinforces my belief that all albums should be 10-12 songs max and under an hour.
Leopard is in the top 5 DD songs of the millennium and Girl Panic might be their best single of the century.
One can only wonder what this album would have done with proper backing from a major label...or if this had been their reunion album and not Astronaut. As it stands, I feel like this album is responsible for a lot of the critical revisionism for the band in the past 10 tears as well as the goodwill that greeted the top 10 charting Paper Gods.

Mediterranea is a great song too, and that for a ballad My position on Leopard stands however.

I had no idea there was an extended version of the All You Need Is Now music video... very cool! I don't think I had seen the EPK either: Hear excerpts from the lost classics King Of Nowhere & Another Time! Nick talking about King Of Nowhere: Then there's Wallybattaroo take 3! The guitar reminds me of Radiohead... does anyone know who this is? Attachment Deleted

“All You Need is Now” is a fantastic album but for some reason I don’t revisit it as much as I do the debut, Rio or So Red the Rose (which are probably the only albums in the Duran cannon that I’d put above AYNIN). There are a few songs that are a touch less effective than others; Leave a Light On is good but clearly borrows a bit from Save a Prayer and the verse vocal line is basically a dead ringer for Out of my Mind... and it doesn’t work as well as either of it’s older brothers. Safe is fun but probably the weakest track but the fact that this is the weakest track only reinforces how great the album is bc it’s still pretty damn good (it’s like what My Own Way is to Rio; the weakest track on the album but still totally fine). As for the rest of the album... it’s all f___ing great and really the album I’d been waiting 25 years for. Restored my faith in the band and validated my fandom. The B-Sides... well some work for me better than others but i do feel like (for once) they put the right songs on the formal album. Networker Nation is pretty cool; almost feels like it would feel more at home on RCM. For some reason I adore This Lost Weekend; almost feels like an updated version of We Need You. Early Summer Nerves is meh and Too Close to the Sun is the worst piece of flaming rat shit that I’ve ever heard. Also, quick appreciation for Ronson. He pulled the best out of them for sure. Duran more than almost any other band really takes on the persona of their producer. Some bands sound the same regardless of the producer or work with the same production team over & over but when you really look at Duran’s shifting style... so much of it is connected to the producer they work with (just a few): Colin Thurston Ian Little Alex Sadkin Nile Rodgers Kinsey John Jones Self produced Timbaland & Danja Nate Ronson Hudson But you can really see the effect. For me, Ronson is right there with Thurston and Sadkin. soundcloud.com/bittersweetmachines/winter-marches-on-duran-duran-cover
