There are movies being shot, TV shows...and DD can't finish mixing an album...they are just using this as an excuse at this point, I'm afraid F@kin Sigue Sigue Sputnik released a boxset last year! Which is even sadder, for a moment, it made me more excited than a possible new DD album lol for an anniversary, I don't really care for new music or a tour....many fans wanted a boxset, with unreleased stuff....and this anniversary was something EVERYONE KNEW WAS COMING UP...like, that poll that was being made? that was ages ago Exactly. By now there would be something (a new remix of one of their first singles, an unreleased track, a special edition vinyl single/album/ep, whatever) if this band were at all serious about celebrating WITH/FOR their fans. And still nothing. Not a peep. No updates. No buzz.

Well we had the white vinyl first album. That was the only regular physical release in 5 years time...

Well we had the white vinyl first album. That was the only regular physical release in 5 years time... Same company, Parlophone, pressed it on regular black vinyl in 2018. The white one last year was made by them, using the same matrixes (check Discogs). So it required almost no effort by Parlophone and none by Duran.

The Psychedelic Furs put out their first album in nearly 30 years in 2020 and IT WAS INCREDIBLE. Duran Duran have no excuse if you ask me...

And what is unbelievable (and confounding) is that the band must realise the drought by what has been published here in countless threads. I cannot understand for the life of me why it would be so laborious for DD to bang something out?

I think the reason they're not putting anything out right now comes down to money. DD is a business and it isn't in the business of losing money. Putting out a product of any kind requires a lot of moving parts--people--and if the product isn't going to generate significant revenue, then it simply doesn't pencil. This is why Nick can do a side project with little to no other human ($$) involvement and release it digitally and it doesn't matter because it is just a hobby for him--it isn't going to make any money and he's OK with that. But DD isn't a hobby. DD's products need to pay the bills for the band and everyone else involved.
Skinburn said that a band he supports made a "fortune" off of him this last year. I understand that "fortune" is a relative term, but I'm guessing it would have required many customers just like him to spend that same fortune to justify the expense of creating the product. We don't see DD's books. They know what will make them money and what won't. If the folks on this board are the only people buying this stuff, that doesn't pencil.
Don't get me wrong...I would love to see more output from the band and I hope that they are using their free time to at least write down some ideas...

they shouldn't have teased us about the 40th anniversary then...that's the core problem, tons of shelved stuff, empty promises and things they "are looking into doing"
if they are afraid of financial loss, just do a kickstarter campaign and depending on the profits, transfer stuff from the vaults and then release it on bandcamp (not for free obviously)

which they won't do, cuz they'd probably just shelve the project two weeks from finishing and would have to give the money back to people

Just so what I said doesn't get lost in translation... I’ve spent a fortune with Townsend Music - who are a third party vinyl / boxset / special edition specialist in the U.K.. They manufacture for a whole plethora of artists. I’ve probably spent about £3/400 this year. Most artists are now using this method to reproduce their back catalogue - which is why I’m a little incensed with DD’s lack of vision.

However, I have the belief it’s for lesser known artists? Those who are looking for a ‘leg up’ to the next stage. There are subsidiary companies like Sound of Vinyl and Townsend who would be better placed for more established artists such as Duran Duran. They market products efficiently across all social networking platforms. Sound of Vinyl belong under the Universal umbrella so perhaps a change of record label is needed! Lol.
