Beautiful Colours is an abomination.
The production is cynical....upbeat, catchy pop guitars, but nothing that lights up.
The guitar solo is unimaginative repetitive tuneless drivel.
The lyrics are (as Simon will likely admit) unadulterated drivel.
The song is all one level. It doesn't go anywhere.
It was tried on tour. It was then abandoned. IMO for very good reason.
Those of you who thrive on the abomination of the mediocre will love it.
Those of us with more discerning ears await such better records as Pressure Off, The Man Who Stole a Leopard and Other People's lives.
Don't get me started on the unfathomable unreleasable travesty that is On Evil Beach (oh, ha ha, it sounds like "an evil beeaatch", but no-one will ever work that subtle link out...yo ho ho ho ho...aren't we naughty?).
And if a song is only available in a US supermarket on a special edition of an album, there's a reason for that. The reason is: it is not worthy of wider release.

I agree on the lyrics of Beautiful Colours. But I don't think Pressure Off is that much deeper than B.C. I like On Evil Beach : less production means more pure Duran It was released exclusively in a US supermarket as a condition to distribute the album there. Many fans buy different editions of the album just for the exclusive track so the band thereby guaranteed a certain minimum of sales to the supermarket. I don't like this business. But it was a way to get the music across. It was that or no Best Buy distribution. On Evil Beach is also on the expensive Vinyl Factory release by the way.

Love Beautiful Colours...should have made it on to Astronaut and been the first single. Want to talk drivel lyrics then let's talk Sunrise.
Like On Evil Beach too...

I saw them on tour in 2003 in New Orleans and they rocked that song! It was never finished for the album. Lyrics could have been fleshed out.

Sorry to break it to you!You are dead wrong! BC rocks! Should have been on the album!! Had a ton of my non Duran friends hear the song ! They said it rocks and should be heard! They all loved it! I would like to see u do better!

Maybe they should do a rewrite and make it more precise and less general. Nothing wrong with the music but the lyrics are cliché. Rewrite it and make it about the LBGT / non binary generation. That would make it current.

There is nothing wrong with BC and as a non-native speaker of English I do not care about lyrics; I hear them but do not listen to them. To me this is by far their best post-TWA song.

I do care about the lyrics. And I am non native English too.
There's a reason Ordinary World was such a succes. The music and the lyrics gelled.

Haha, if that's the case, nothing makes me happier than thriving on the abomination of mediocrity!
Call me Mr Mediocre all day, and twice on a Sunday, but Beautiful Colours is fantastic!
Absolutely classic Duran, with a rollicking John Taylor bassline, catchy guitar riff, understated synths, and very suitable drumming with decent open hats by Rog.
Anybody who doesn't like Beautiful Colours, doesn't truly like music or Duran Duran, and probably gets up to very inappropriate activities in their spare time with people and objects they shouldn't.
I resent you being more controversial than me Shutterhaze. Stop it, you incorrigible miscreant.
