For some time, I've wondered about references the band make in interviews, about certain locations in stories. Like, where was John's Knightsbridge home? Which locations are featured in HLTW, SAP and Nightboat? Where did the band grow up? Where was the squat in cheapside where Roger joined them for the first time? Where was The Sugar Shack? These things are annoying, especially when you cant place them geographically. For example, I always thought The Sugar Shack was located in the South of France. This past week, I got fed up with all of those endless loose ends, so I used some detective skills to track down as many addresses as possible. These were cross-referenced by the actual locations of those addresses today, using the 360 degree streetview images on Google Maps. This was not an easy list to put together, and sometimes I had to wander around the map streets searching for clues, studying articles, zooming into location photos etc. My intention was to place these on a memory map/tour so people can see those places without having to visit. I havent added any Weddings or related personal locations yet, but even without those, the list seems mostly complete. If I missed anything obvious, let me know. Note: Please DO NOT TROLL the band's current locations, or I'll have to remove those locations from the list. duranduran.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Duran_Related_Buildings_and_Locations

This is very much unexpected and truly fantastic! The nostalgia is hitting me big time just glancing down the list.
Bravo!
Edit: Just now noticing the map links...damn...double damn. You have truly done something wonderful with this!

I wish I had checked out some of these places when I lived in the West Midlands for 20 years.

Thanks for the list. A couple of addendums. B a t e s Toy Shop was at the Maypole Precinct if I recall correctly. Now knocked down and replaced with a Travelodge and shops one side and a Sainsburys the other.
The Air Studios that Rio was recorded at was on Oxford Circus in London. It moved to it's current site years later.
Roger was from Castle Bromwich. A lot of the post production Arena stuff was also done at Hall 5 of the NEC, Birmingham. Chinese Rocks brother in law was a work colleague of mine, and told me, plus a schoolfriends' Scout group were drafted in as extras.

This is very much unexpected and truly fantastic! The nostalgia is hitting me big time just glancing down the list. Bravo! Edit: Just now noticing the map links...damn...damn. You have truly done something wonderful with this! Yes, the streetview map links really was the best part of this journey. Finding those spots, playing docos and videos, finding views to freeze frame. Today I added John's telescope location from AVTAK. Spent ages walking around the tower trying to find the location for Rogers van, (with the elevator leg to the right) but I think maybe its now a garden park? I wish the map links were in a different colour, but thats a long job. I wish I had checked out some of these places when I lived in the West Midlands for 20 years. I only got to visit Birmingham once when I was maybe 6, so 1982 sort of period. I remember riding some kind of elevated railway to Solihull? I sure got to know more about Birmingham from this virtual tour. Thanks for the list. A couple of addendums. I added all of your additions, thanks a lot. Some were obvious but I would never have known about the original AIR in London. Thanks also for the update on Roger's childhood home. If anyone can pinpoint Andy's childhood home, I'd love to add that to complete the whole set. Thanks everyone for your great feedback on this. I did work very hard, but it was worth it to find out the facts after 40 years. I mean.. its about time. At least now when they mention these places, I have a point of reference I can look up and wander around those places, so I know what they are actually talking about.
