This is what it's all about: The album entered the UK albums chart at number 5, becoming their 9th Top 5 album overall and making them one of only a handful of bands who have scored Top 5 albums in four consecutive decades. In the US it entered the Billboard 200 at number 10 and became their first top 10 album since 1993's Duran Duran (1993). In Italy, the album peaked at number 2.
We were talking about the quality of the songs in PG. You are talking about charts. Disconnected topics.
The reviews for Paper Gods were all positive and the album performed better than the last several in the charts. That says more than a few loud salty fans. ✌

It’s not the trash news websites, full of advertising and annoying pop-ups we should be taking notice of. Besides, reviews are the personal take of one individual. How do they enjoy their steak cooked? I think this forum is a prime example of contrasting *taste* in music Signed A ‘salty’ fan. 😁

Backing up an unpopular opinion with a conspiracy theory, love it. Lol. ‘Conspiracy theory’. How’s that? Still waiting on this.. I’ve just had a scour through Google to find reviews of Paper Gods and I’m struggling to find any that really put their weight behind it. Put it this way there are more negative ones than there are positives. Perhaps we need a new thread? So this one doesn’t get taken over? I’d be happy to get involved in a discussion.

Not sure what you mean.. 8/10 on pop matters 4.5 star rating on Amazon (700 reviews) 3.5 stars on Rolling Stone & Billboard NY times also gave it a positive wrap (without a rating). Worst review I saw was the Guardian's 3 star review. It's okay to say it's not your cup of tea but to outright trash it is unnecessary, especially when the majority of fans and reviewers disagree with you. And before you give me the "passionate fan" response, no.

And before you give me the "passionate fan" response, no. Trashed it? Read the thread again. Get your facts straight before posting. 😉 How do you think Invisible got on the A playlist on Radio 2? Let me give you a clue - Radio 2 didn't put it there purely by merit. It’s a great tune by the way - just so I don’t get misquoted. 700 reviews on Amazon?? Wow. That just shows how little it sold - even if everybody who bought didn't review it. As for Rolling Stone et al that’s where the back scratching comes into play. Naivety is ok though. I can show evidence where I’ve been taken in! Lol. Besides, the ones you quoted are a minority. Seriously. Find the major ones that are neutral and where there’s nothing in it for them. I can provide links if needed? As for ‘passionate fan response’? No, it’s a very mediocre album

I remember John Aizlewood of the London Evening Standard and a regular “Q Magazine” contributor giving Astronaut 4.5/5 and I quote “the second half has some of the best songs the band have ever done”. Like Skinburn says “How do you enjoy your steak cooked”. It’s one person’s review. In my eyes, Paper Gods has too much filler, something the band have been guilty of to flesh out a 12-14 track album. There are some great songs but one of their best albums? Not sure.

I take no notice of reviews generally. I will look at Rotten Tomatoes for a Saturday night movie so I can get an idea of the plot, direction and acting ability. But that’s a whole lot different to listening to music. lol
