This thread blurs into another I’ve commented on - about Paper Gods reviews on the Reef thread. It’s all about scratching backs again. It seems artists have run out of melody ideas so they now use computer game music (as quoted by Katy Krassner) to compensate. It’s a disaster. How easy it now must be to ‘write’ a song and get it streamed.

These days collaborations are the fashion. I really liked Grandmaster Flash with Duran Duran, that worked well, even Nightrunner featuring Justin Timberlake, which should have been a single, not falling down. The FutureSex/LoveSounds I listened to alot! I rarely check the charts, even though I love the new Paul Weller tracks, especially "Fat Pop" and "Cosmic Fringes". It would be great if DD did some TV shows for the UK, Graham Norton Show is the only one that might boost any DD coverage, not many good chat shows over here anymore compared to the 80's when you had Wogan, Des O'conner etc.

I don’t mind collabs - just not half an album”s worth of songs - to the point that the album may as well be titled ‘Duran Duran feat. Various Artists’. The Kudos only happens when its xyz feat. Duran Duran. It says that xyz wants to work with Duran Duran. Not the other way round. The GM thing with White Lines was different. It was a cover and a real scoop to get the original artist involved. A rap pioneer. It was the only collab on Thankyou. Then there was Milton Nascimento on TWA - a revered artist from Brazil. These were the years when it was unique to collaborate. It was a refreshing distraction from the usual Duran Duran dna. These days I have no idea what the Duran Duran dna sounds like.

Collaborations have been a thing since the 80s, only they were called duets at the time when superstars collaborated. I also think people in collaborations get more credit nowadays (and maybe were uncredited in the past). Similar with remixes, just called Extended or Disco mix in the beginning, but not until the late 80s were they called Shep Pettibone mix or Phil Harding Mix. Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney would be labeled as Michael Jackson feat. Paul McCartney nowadays, and Notorious a song by Duran Duran featuring Nile Rodgers. Arcadia's The Promise (featuring. Sting & David Gilmour)
