so Andres thread got me thinking how much I prefer the live version of nite runner over the studio, than I released I really haven’t listened to the studio version in quite some time. Listening to it now, I honestly enjoy it much more than I did back in the RCM days. I said in the other thread the song itself was hyped to much. By the band, press and the 6 month discussion on here as to if this would be the saving factor for DD getting a hit again, I think I personally was expecting something much more collab wise.
But now listening to it, corny lyrics aside I don’t hate this song. It’s got a nice groove, I like the funky riff and the bass sounds full ( esp on a good system).

I certainly like the intro, first verse & chorus, but NR seems to be missing some key ingredient as it’s unable to hold my interest & loses me after the first few minutes. The Valley was always the highlight of RCM for me & is up their among their best album tracks. I’ve often wondered whether an edited version of The Valley would’ve worked better as lead single, rather than FD?

I don’t like the flow. It stutters too much. Mostly the beats.

Still think Nite Runner should been the first single of RCM. Could been a hit back then.

It was odd to me that FD was released first. DD kept plugging the dance club should, then release a contemporary music track. I love FD, but it definitely changed my perception of the album to come.
Nite Runner was okay. But I have never been sold on Timbaland.

Nite Runner makes me cringe. I may be in the minority, but from the Timbaland/Timberlake tracks, I’ve always preferred Skin Divers.

I'd prefer to revisit The Valley, Red Carpet Massacre, Box Full, Skin Divers, Tricked Out and She's Too Much...

To me, Nite Runner seems more like a musical sample than a song.
It's cool at first, but loses lustre very quickly. No real melodic chorus - just more of the same sound from the verse.
Having said that - it's certainly not a disaster either. It's better than quite a few tracks off Paper Gods.
I give it the official rank of "okay album track at best".

A tad repetitive, but then again, everything Timbaland did back then was just a looped beat (Sexy Back, Promiscuous).
It is still a banger that would have absolutely slayed clubs in 2007. No idea why Sony did not push this as a single. The Tim/Tim collaboration would have generated a lot of media and radio interest. Oddly enough, this neglected track has actually aged better than Tim’s big hits circa 2006-2010.
Nite Runner, Tempted and Cry Baby Cry are all top shelf pop Duran to me and would have made excellent wingless.
Falling Down rivals only Violence of Summer in the pantheon of disastrous first singles by DD.
