I can concur…huge Bleachers (i.e., Jack Antonoff) fan. These aren’t “singles”. It’s not how the music biz works these days. They realize songs as previews to hype the album…plain and simple. BTW…I’m all for Jack producing at least one song for Duran, if not an entire album. Listen to “Like a River Runs” off of Bleachers album “Strange Desire”…one of the best non-80’s “80’s track” ever…EVER. They're still technically singles, just not marketed the same way they were 10+ years ago. I've noticed some other fans try to discredit "More Joy" as not a single, when in fact a song dropping on its own before an album release is just that. Highly recommend reading this article on the function of singles in the "digital age". diymusician.cdbaby.com/releasing-music/what-is-a-single/Hopefully it helps anyone who's confused or concerned about the multiple single drops. I have lost touch with the difference between a song drop and a single. I perceive a single a physical release - so even if there’s a promo CD available (the same as what happened with Paper Gods) then to me that’s good enough to be a single. It also means the radio stations will (or it’s eligible) play it. Time will tell if More Joy gets radio play.

«The benefits and challenges of releasing singles The good news: We’re living in an age of singles, and there are tons of ways to put one song to work. The bad news: Every other artist has a new single to promote too, so you can’t just drop a song into the world and expect it to reach people without some effort and advance planning. All this to say, there’s a lot more to releasing a single than just throwing it up on SoundCloud or Bandcamp. There’s a lot more to it than distributing your single worldwide via CD Baby too. You need to first consider the strategy behind the release of your single You’ll want to tackle each of these questions – and probably some more – when you’re formulating your release strategy. How are you going to attract listeners, encourage streams, and drive downloads? How is the launch of this single going to enhance your relationship with your audience? How will this song help you get to the next level in your music career? How does a single help you tell a little bit more of your artist story? How do you position your single to capitalize on streaming tools and algorithmic traction? You should also weigh the pros and cons of releasing standalone songs. As artists, we’re dealing in “attention economics.” Gone are the days when you could disappear for three years to make your next album and expect fans to stay loyal. In our world of short attention spans, releasing music more frequently can play a significant factor in your success.» diymusician.cdbaby.com/music-promotion/10-strategies-for-releasing-a-single/

It sounds as if More Joy and Anniversary are going to be released soon. Another one mid September with a final maybe a week before album, would make it 5 songs released. I could see it working. I don’t see that .. 3 songs top… big artists don’t even release 5 songs .. the weekend Dua lipa exception… I know times have changed and Duran even in early 80s never released more than 3 songs .. tops 4 when they were hot! I hope I’m wrong but Legacy acts don’t normally do this ? Perhaps BMG knows something I don’t ? Gary Numan is on the same label and he released 4 " singles" ahead of the album. Madonna did more or less the same for her last album, and I think Kylie did as well- these are all what I would call legacy acts. So this is pretty much the norm

I long for the old days where you could pop down to Woolworths/Our Price to physically buy a single. Yes, I need to stop living in the past

I long for the old days where you could pop down to Woolworths/Our Price to physically buy a single. Yes, I need to stop living in the past Me too!!! On a Monday morning with my pre-order receipt. 7" and 12" and literally stroking them as I removed them from the bag once home. Not quite the same with a click...

You're not stroking it right. ... Oh ... you said "click". You'd be amazed what a "c" and an "l" look like next to each other
