Great stuff…what I found most fascinating is what DD handed AJR & Bob was very different from the finished version. My perception of the WC era was that stuff was more organically written vs today, where you have Ben Hudson/Erol Alkan/Nile heavily involved in the writing…but it sounds like the “mixing” done in this era was almost comparable. Not saying it’s a bad thing, just not what I expected. Also, someone else mentioned Plastic Girl…I think that was just a one-off jam from DD’s March 1995 appearance on that “Most Wanted” MTV show, not a demo. Well, Plastic Girl may have been first played and possibly assembled for the MTV show, but I doubt it was a jam - it had certainly been rehearsed and worked on to some extent - it’s too good not to have been. This was 1995, so the song was certainly in the right period to be developed on. The lyric must have been influential at the very least; I think the chord structure is similar too.

I thought that too, gabby , until I read this in a separate thread: OK - leats clear something up.... "Plastic Girl" was not a song for Medazzaland. It was a little rough bit they made up on the spot on MTV Wanted in April 1995 for the host who's birthday it was. She used to dress in plastic a lot... it was just a little diddy they were working on... was not an official song. Honestly, I am surprised Mr. Lewis that you really have something to 'give'. Seriously, positive surprised Let me confirm that 'Plastic Girl' was not a real song. As you said, it was simply an improvised song called 'Plastic Girl' because 'Naughty Nina' (from MTV's Most Wanted) was wearing a plastic suit in the studio that day. I am on my phone, or I would link to the thread. It’s “Duran Duran - People Like You.” If you search “plastic girl” it comes up in the list.

Thanks for sharing poptrash Though difficult for DD personally, I enjoyed this period musically and love hearing song development history. EB is a better song than how it was received. There really wasn't much like it at the time. Worth commenting on Anthony's FB if you enjoyed the podcast. It should encourage more episodes. www.facebook.com/anthonyjrestamusic/

May well have been where the lyric was inspired from, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a “real song”. All songs develop from an idea. I guess whatever the origin of Plastic Girl, there is nothing to suggest that it didn’t then morph into EB. That’s my theory anyway!

I am following Anthony's facebook and he knows i love his work. In fact he informed me that he has been working on Medazzaland recently for a reissue and has been using a lot of Warrens stuff that was unused before. I asked if it is going to be for an expanded reissue which he didnt directly confirmed but said he was working with a lot of unused Warren stuff from old DATs. Let's wait and see what comes from this.

If he's working on this, then perhaps there's work being done on the other albums for a reissue.

Although not one of my favorite albums of Duran's, this news bodes well. If he's working on this, then perhaps there's work being done on the other albums for a reissue. Could be that the Duranthology will be a reality. Imagine that..all the rare stuff, PT & Medazzaland alternate takes, ALL the good stuff that wasn't used in Astonaut like BC, SITR, PO etc. Reportage. Then, (and this is sadly less likely), the sound is fixed so it has that thing Nick Rhodes often espouses - dynamic range and NOT squashed like so many of their realeases. Wonderful music spoilt by poor sound is very unfortunate. Would not be cheap, but would be worth it if not silly money (although the cost vs value is subjective). Make it happen DD

This would be a brilliant release if done properly.

I am no fan of Medazza and PT but would immediately buy expanded reissues on CD (and vinyl if the price is right, as lately new vinyl had become too expensive for my taste)
