Excellent piece Harold!
Never been to Ibiza, but the whole atmosphere of that party island is not my thing. I hope many enjoyed the show, but €15 for a beer? That's even harsh compared to American hotel prices. Still in doubt whether I will get a ticket for their Barcelona show, which will probably be a similar experience yet with half the set list...

Thank you for that honest review. I feel disappointed for the fans, as it was advertised as something special, I thought it would be so much more, I’m glad I didn’t go, then again I’m not bothering with any of the shows this year, my friend is off to Leicester next week, I’ll be jealous for a bit, but for me I had the best DD experiences post reunion, went to quite a few shows, & had a blast, great times & memories.

I was there, too. Very lucky to get front row, centre. Nobody around me was a fan, let alone a hard core fan (only my husband and my friend Anu). The front row was full when I entered. Nobody sang a single song of Future Past but us; most people did not even sing at all... I agree in most of the things hyou say. IMS also did a panel with DD before the Pollen Q&A and I was at that one, covering IMS as press. This line describes the entire experience in a nutshell: "L-R phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, JT, phone, phone, phone, SLB, phone, phone, phone, phone, NR, another f___ing phone, phone". Bravo!

Some thoughts. The posters in your second photo were only attached there with thin clear tape, so there was no yanking off the wall. As far as I know, it's not illegal to take a poster down, and actually helps to clear up the wall during an event. The big DD signs for photo ops is perhaps just flash money which Pollen spent on props. The band probably had nothing to do with the whole Pollen weekend thing, and it's clear from the setlist DD saw it as just another show. I guess they should have had some kind of public meet and greet, but with Covid and Simon recently having it (apparently), I guess this was never going to happen. Pollen did spin some kind of dream of an exclusive DD themed weekend, but there is only so much you can do without the bands involved. They absolutely could have been more imaginative with their ideas, and of course I could have suggested DD themed tour reps, coaches, and DJs and at least 80's music to dance to; which have, you know, some nostalgia. Karaoke sounds like a good idea to me. You are right, the Hanger exhibitions would have been better if the weather was bad, then it would have been packed. Some DD memorabilia would have been very welcome, as looking at artwork can feel a bit dry. The pretentious David Lynch film I can easily pass on. The RT mix was definitely awesome from what I heard too. Certainly some missed opportunities. Like a DD Fans section, away from tourists. Sounds like it was a memorable event you will never forget, and much more so than just jumping in the car to some show and then landing back home again. I doubt anything like this will ever happen again, as Pollen will move on to other bands, so maybe it was a trip of a lifetime?

Thanks. Strangely enough, a few days after the concert I started feeling very determined to see DD again as soon as possible. I've had so many great experiences at DD gigs over the last 20 years and not everything is going to be perfect. The lower points can make the higher points feel more special. So I hope you do go and see them at Barcelona and you have a great time! Nothing ventured, nothing gained. (Except an empty wallet depending on beer prices!) Harold

Yeah, it's definitely a tricky proposition when you've had some amazing experiences and feel that nothing will come close let alone surpass it in the future. I had a blast in the reunion era too - such fun. Strangely though, I'm not sure I've enjoyed a DD concert more than at Scarborough last year! Harold

Thanks Faby. I have to give Adam from Cherry Lipstick full credit for the smart captions though! That's a shame that nobody around you seemed to know the Future Past songs at the front. I wish there was some kind of area at concerts where you can be around fans who know and love songs beyond the big hits! Perhaps you can only get entry to this fan area by quoting Future Past lyrics! I hope you had a fun time though. The crowd at Ushuaia was such a strange mix. Very different to Pacha the night before which was very pro-DD! Although I did feel that I was the only one who exploded with joy when Roger started playing the Nice remix! Harold Harold

Harold, really nice right up of your experience. An enjoyable read. Re this quote: and sorry for exposing my cluelessness, can this be explained? This line describes the entire experience in a nutshell: "L-R phone, phone, phone, phone, phone, JT, phone, phone, phone, SLB, phone, phone, phone, phone, NR, another f___ing phone, phone". Bravo! They're on their phones, someone's on the phone, there's phones everywhere...? What is this describing? Thanks (just curious as I can't visually see it)
