If you compare Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar" and HLTW, there is no difference in music, really. Hmm.

First off, this article is fake, Duran Duran themselves stated this on Facebook. Second John wouldn't say this, they wanted to be inducted, it was important to them. Third, this whole "DD isn't rock" is complete nonsense. They are as a rock as anyone else to deny this is to deny them. Also, there is a guy on the FB page who claims to be a fan yet insists he doesn't feel they belong in the HOF because they aren't rock and he's trolling. For the record, I wouldn't call them "rock". However, it's because their music fits better into some other category such as alternative, etc. But they are a rock band and anyone saying otherwise is just wrong. Gate keepers suck. Yeah that makes sense and I hear very few calling bands rock, it seems most fall into categories such as alternative. This makes sense. I wasn't thinking this, but more along the lines of those who think they are something different than what they are, like boy bands.

This is really equivalent to childhood name calling, and I am too old for that sort of dumb crap. This is the main reason I felt sure Duran would never be inducted into rrhof. Not because they're not "worthy" but because those voting seemed to hold to this juvenile mentality. Fortunately it seems to have evolved, so that's good. But not everyone has evolved.

Very true. Yeah, I see people comparing them to Boy Bands or mainstream pop artists and they aren't. Facebook (and other social media) are full of trolls who want to argue. I've argued with so many who insists they aren't, not because they consider them alternative (which is rock but they are thinking more along heavier rock or something), but because they put them in the same category as the Boy Bands, Britney and the like. I don't even engage in discussion with them, they are looking to fight, and not worth the time. I actually did think not only would they be nominated but inducted because the HOF membership has changed considerably in the last few years from Baby Boomers (who pretty much hate anything from the 80s) to Gen X and younger and they get a lot of respect from Gen X musicians, especially alternative acts and strangely many rappers.

they get a lot of respect from Gen X musicians, We grew up on them so that's to be expected lol. Unlike other generations, gen X didn't get much that was OURS (it was either aimed at the boomer's or the millennial's). Perhaps that's one reason the Duran fanbase has such endurance.

The Boomers for the most part are elitist when it comes to music. Granted they were more open it seems about the whole "is it rock" debate* but for many years their music dominated. How often do we see their acts listed at the top? Nany deserve it for sure but often Gen X acts were deemed less important. Now though the Boomers are retiring, dying off, etc so more Gen x musicians are in control. In fact I think many of the Boomer bands not in the HOF will have a hard time I think so it's turning.
