Your response provides no evidence that DD is the recipient of age discrimination. You can't simply say "not true" and be right. You can't "guarantee" a hypothetical and be right. Citing something that happened 20 years ago isn't good evidence. And, if anything, your claim that Invisible and Anniversary were on rotation counters your ageism claim. Duran Duran's lack of chart success has nothing to do with age discrimination and everything to do with the harsh reality of how consumer behaviors change as we age along with the musicians we love. That's life. The real b***h is age denialism (See Madonna c. 2024). The band isn't denying their age--they're accepting it. We should too. I literally had a DJ in my neck of the woods who said he won't play DD on his radio show because they are too old! Is that enough for you? Ps: he loved the song but wouldn't play it! Does this station play 80s era Duran Duran?

Does this station play 80s era Duran Duran? No..they play rap, alternative, everything current. Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Eminem. They did play Anniversary on heavy rotation, but he is no longer employed by the station. This was when Pressure Off first came out. He refused to play it, but liked it. Ageism! Bet if it they were under 40 he would be playing this song.

Either I’m misunderstanding or you’re not making sense. Regardless, what a DJ likely means when he says a band is too old is that the station only plays music that makes sense for its demographic. It’s likely that the station concluded (right or wrong) that their listeners want to hear what’s already popular vs. what’s new. Major market stations these days don’t like to take risks. A Contemporary Hits station (18-34 demographic) would rather play Taylor Swift for the millionth time and hang on to their listeners than play Black Moonlight and risk listeners changing the station. A Classic Hits station (45-54 demographic) would rather play Hungry Like The Wolf for the millionth time and hang on to their listeners than play Black Moonlight and risk listeners changing the station. There’s only so many minutes in an hour to play music and a pragmatic station is going to play the music that will retain the most listeners so they can (hopefully) achieve good enough ratings to charge market rates for advertising. A locally owned small market station definitely has more freedom to play what they want, but the risks are the same. There isn’t an audience big enough in any given city to support new music from established artists, which is why products like Pandora and Spotify have been a gift to folks like us to love that stuff. None of this is ageism. It’s capitalism. I don’t like either, Andre, I’m just accepting of it. And please know that I’m not picking on you. Just having a healthy debate. I love that you keep fighting for them.

I love that you keep fighting for them. He got fired! He wasn't around when they played Anniversary. Still telling me that they were too old is Ageism. It was shocking to hear back in 2015! Meaning you can have a great song and it can check all the boxes off, but if you are not young they will not play it on the radio....it's a fact. That's ageism. Now you take a Dua Lipa and throw her with a remake of Elton John well you have gold and a charting song and billion streams and a million times played everywhere all over the world-it doesn't always happen. I think sometimes that's what DD is trying to do..so you can't say they aren't trying and I give them props for at least trying. But, popular music on the radio unfortunately is a young person's game. It's sad, because you still have great music being made from established acts. Many of the young folks just make a ton of garbage music IMO that is here today and gone tomorrow..and established acts don't get the recognition for a great song. My issue with PR and Mgmt. I feel that they don't do enough with streaming and getting the band out there all the time..maybe the band is fine with it..but that tells me they aren't when they are still trying to work with hip producers or trying to get A list female stars..they still want a hit and recognition..I don't fault them for that. But you can't have it both ways I guess. I mean they are getting older and I give them credit for touring and still being able to give us new material. I just feel they can do so much more with the limited time they still have...that's all...

I just feel they can do so much more with the limited time they still have...that's all... Maybe the guy was just an a-hole. He was fired, after all. But unless he was the program or music director, it’s likely that he had no say in what was played anyway. Either way, it sounds like the station isn’t afraid of Duran Duran now. Good news. If a particular CHR station is playing Elton John and not Duran Duran, it would be hard to argue age discrimination since Elton is older than any member of DD. It sounds more like band discrimination, which is nothing new to Duran Duran. Personally I don’t care about radio play and I don’t think the band works with anyone thinking it’s going to get them a hit. I think they do it in part because its fun to work with fresh talent and said talent probably respects them and finds it thrilling to work with them. So long as the band is making new music, making money, and enjoying themselves, we benefit as fans. That’s good enough for me.
