A few more random thoughts on DD's Spotify numbers: Invisible shows no signs of slowing down at 15MM streams and should pass UOTS in a week or so. Too Late Marlene is their 29th most streamed song on Spotify with 4.1MM streams!! That is way more than the singles from Big Thing!! It's rubbing shoulders with classic Rio tracks like HBTR and newer songs like LNITC!! Based on those numbers I went back and revisited the song for the first time in a decade and I'm happy to report it still slaps. Lay Lady Lay is just outside the top 20 with 8.6MM streams! Are Dylan fans streaming this one? This is also way more than White Lines or Perfect Day! Finally, Matter of Feeling being their 13th more streamed song (21.5MM) just makes me smile for some reason. Now that is a song that deserves that Stranger Things/Running Up That Hill treatment. Next season should be 1986, correct? There were some amazing non-single songs on both Notorious and Big Thing albums that deserved more recognition. However, at that time, being a fan of Duran Duran in the UK was not trendy due to the backlash after the band's huge success in the early 80s. Despite this, I remember passionately arguing with people about the quality of songs like American Science, Matter of Feeling, Vertigo, and Hold Me. If Hold Me had been released as the third single from Notorious, instead of the tame remix of Meet El President, I believe it would have resonated with a whole new audience and changed people's perceptions of the band. The same goes for Big Thing. I remember telling people to listen to Too Late Marlene if they thought that the band was a one-dimensional teen band, as it showcases the range of Duran songwriting skills.

I know you've mentioned this before and I quite disagree on Hold Me. I find it pretty much the weakest track on the album but what do I know? 😛 It's okay as an album track, but I really don't see why they would have released it as a single.
AMOF would have been a hit if they had done a proper AC remix/video and released and promoted it as the second single. Skin Trade would have been a decent third single perhaps.
The album itself was still a moderate hit and went platinum so the fanbase at that time would have enjoyed all the songs.

While we can debate the quality of these songs, Notorious followed by A Matter of Feeling and Hold Me as singles would have undoubtedly opened up the band to a whole new audience in 1987. AMOF is amongst their most mature ballads ever and Hold Me has just the right amount of edge (and all an time bridge).
To my ears, Skin Trade screams album track and the Meet El Presidente remix is too bust for its own good.
DYBIS is a very personal song for the band, but damn if Too Late Marlene isn't a perfect late 80s jam. A Too Late single could have crossed over to the R&B charts as well.

I don’t know that any song coulda changed things
the majority of the dd fans were “get AT n RT back coz this isn’t DD anymore”
The critics were citing them as not being serious / knowing they wouldn’t have lasted
I was feeling this is so mature and so up my alley, I was 17 yet all I wanted to be was 21 I loved the LPs gloss sounding funk !
Like a wounded animal DD surpassed my expectations and have done so ever since

INVISIBLE is gaining traction and being used in YouTube and Tik Tok videos for the massively popular new PlayStation 5 and P.C game HellDivers 2. For non gamers in the DD community this game HellDivers 2 is exploding as one of the biggest games of 2024 online.
It’s nice to see comments of younger gamers loving the song and older players acknowledging the greatness and longevity of Duran Duran crossing into other media.

It just surpassed the Greatest version of OW, and it seems it will beat New Moon On Monday (at #15) by tomorrow. kworb.net/spotify/artist/0lZoBs4Pzo7R89JM9lxwoT_songs.htmlIt's still going strong, averaging about 130 k streams per day. It has been decreasing but it is still their 3rd most streamed song daily. Not bad.
