Thank you for that suggestion. I have a horrible draft coming in one of the large windows in my living room - which is right behind the couch...brrrrrr (5 degrees right now in Boston).
I'll give plastic wrap a shot!

I'll give plastic wrap a shot! Before you put the plastic wrap up make sure the frame is sealed with sealant.. Then put the plastic wrap over the window.. Good luck all..

Some utility companies will come out, check your house, and give you ideas for free (well, implementing the ideas may cost you, but the evaluation may not). We had one done in December through ours. Call & ask!

They make little insulation dohickies that fit under outlet covers. at least I had seen them in the 80's. I'd look into that.
Maybe if you tightened the screws so it is super snug against the wall, or caulk it.
just suggestions.

They actually sell a foamy thing at Home Depot of Lowes that goes inside the outlet. You just unscrew it and put the thing inside. My house is only 6 years old and has the worst insulation (i.e. none) that I have ever had the misfortune of living in. I am going to have to call somebody to make holes in the freakin' walls so they can pump extra insulation inside. I shouldn't be freezing inside my house when the thermostat is set at 70. You can feel the air coming in through the walls. I wish I could sue the Justin Beiber Fan we bought the house from.

well thanks to cookie cutter style houses that builders are throwing up to make a quick buck, many are going to have these problems.
great suggestions made. outlet covers are great as are the plastic vapor barriers - we have those on all of our north facing windows as they get the coldest. it is best to take care of these issues, if not they will drain your pockets with your energy bills.
@ivy - just make sure the insulation you blow in is healthy, like a soy based one.

thanks every one.
Since I live in an apartment I am not going to pay for upgrades and not get reembursed for it.
I will go and look for the items mentioned.
