So does anyone have any? I'm going to the tree lighting festivities for the first time. I know there are supposed to be massive crowds there, but how early do you need to show up? Has anyone ever been, and now has invaluable words of wisdom to share? Thanks in advance!

So late afternoon probably wouldn't cut it, huh? If you're not there early, is it competely impossible to see anything, or not worth it?

Kansas City has their big Plaza lighting ceremony every year too, which I now avoid like the plague. We have horrible public transport here, so it's usually parking that's the nightmare. Wear an extra pair of socks (your feet'll get cold standing there), don't wear anything you don't want lost or ruined. My favorite bracelet is still lying down a sewer somewhere in Manhattan.

I love seeing the photos. Downtown Chicago is lighting up this weekend.
