I won't even comment on all the materialism of this whole event - part of the reason why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. You spend time with your family and loved ones, eat and be happy. NO gift giving, no materialism, it's wonderful. It gives you time to look around and appreciate all that you have.
As far as the Uggs though, no stinky feet!! I wear mine without socks all the time and I'm surprised how well they work and NO stink!! My first pair I wores socks with because I didn't believe they would keep my feet warm and stink free. My second pair - I've gone sock free the whole time and they work MUCH better. It is one of my better investments as I basically live in them from mid October till Mid April - I'm a weakling when it comes to this cold weather stuff!!

Nothing says the holidays like a predawn scuffle at Walmart Wahahahaha! I love that. Our recent Veteran's Day weekend took on a new meaning for me when I went the sale at Kohl's. I felt lucky to escape in one piece. As far as the Oprah episode, I would imagine most of those items are donated by the companies for the advertising exposure. And if she or her production company did purchase some items, wouldn't they just be tax write-offs? Is there an accountant in the house?? While I agree that celeb salaries are downright obscene now (especially given the limited talent in most cases... I'm looking at you Julia) those amounts apparently pale in comparison to what the studios bring in. So I can see where actors who draw people to movies would fight greedy studios for a fair share of that. Still the lives these people live are truly absurd. On the other hand you have people like Keanu, who donated $50 million of his Matrix salary to the film's crew and Shakira who recently coughed up $45 million for humanitarian efforts in South America. News like that helps to balance out all the stories about rich douche-bags behaving badly.

I can't stand this episode, or any of her celebrity ass-kissing episodes. She has the balls to makes statements re how she feels less compelled to help less fortunate American kids, b/c all they ask for are iPods and sneakers, and then she puts on this schwag fest every year. I think I'll stop there. I can already feel my shoulders tensing up. Its too bad that all the kids Oprah knows have families who can afford to shop for Ipods and sneakers.

Wow all the Oprah hating....***steps over the green eyed monster*** Wow, I've never watched this show and felt jealous or overly materialistic. It's a TV show for chrisake. I admire her but in no way follow or obey everything she says. She's made her money herself and has every right to give to whatever charity she chooses. I never understood people tearing others down for not giving to the charity THEY think is appropriate. Another version of a RCM going on here...........tear down, rip them apart. This show for me was the most boring of all the ones I've seen before, nothing struck me as a must have item for me but this was OPRAH'S favorite things and I think the way she chose her audience was the coolest. She has some great shows and some stinkers too. I think her whole The Secret book wave that took over for a while was a bit hokey but hey if it inspired someone to live a better life who are we to complain.

Hmmm, interesting. I think what you might be referring to as "hating" or jealousy is actually just some people's choice to think critically about the obvious contradictions b/t what Oprah says and what Oprah does.

Heh. Most of the people I know who can't stand Oprah aren't jealous of her money--they just think she's full of shit as a Christmas Turkey.
As for 'The Secret'--hokey doesn't even begin to describe it. People living a better life because of it--great for them, but I think the person who wrote it (whoever that was) is living the best life because of how many flippin' books they sold!

Just one more thing: Having money does not make one evil just as much as being poor doesn't make one a saint.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

I won't even comment on all the materialism of this whole event - part of the reason why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. You spend time with your family and loved ones, eat and be happy. NO gift giving, no materialism, it's wonderful. It gives you time to look around and appreciate all that you have. Oh I agree on this part. Christmas has turned into a consumer holiday and a lot of kids have no clue what the true meaning of Christmas is (whatever your belief in might be). It's all about what you can get and seeing parents going into huge debt to buy their kids happiness make me a little ill. I understand that gifts are a big party of the holidays but I always hear people saying around this time of year how they spend so much money on Christmas. I have never really gone into any kind of out of the ordinary debt over this holiday. I also agree that our culture today is entirely to obsessed in the lives of unimportant so called celebrities. I've never been one to buy those magazines or watch the shows about what is going on in their day-to-day lives, really it doesn't affect me much but obviously a lot of people do. I wish they would pick up a history book and read about the true hero's. I do think there are celebrities out there with true talent and I admire them for being able to do something I have no ability at...my singing voice sucks and I couldn't act my way out of a paper bag. Do they make to much money, sure but like Carina said, we did this. I think it's up to parents to teach the kids the difference between true hero's and people who are famous for no good reason. Moderation. I mean I have no clue when the DD kids bdays are or when they got married or how old the kids are, it just wasn't ever something I felt the need to know. My memory is crap to begin with so putting that trivial information in there might push out something more important I wasn't saying anyone here was jealous of Oprah and of course you have every right to dislike her but I think she's done a lot of good in this world with her good fortune but she is human and makes mistakes. I really don't pay that much attention to her life and such to know how big of a hypocrite she might be but it's always easy to sit and judge someone when you haven't walked in their shoes. If we have to have celebrities as role models I'll take Oprah over most off the idiots out there any day.
