I was suprised when I lived in England how many negative things I heard about Americans. Then again, I said many of the same things of the American tourists.

Only 5% of people in MEXICO speak English??? Gee, go figure.......... I think other countries hate Americans because, well......many of us don't bother to learn anything about the rest of the world. Frankly, Americans are, by and large, ignorant. And I'm an American.........and yes, a patriotic one. I served in the Air Force to defend my right to make that last statement, and to defend your right to say what YOU want. I wish Americans knew more about the world........about our own country!! (I am taking political science this semester, I get scared everytime I walk in that class at what some of those gooberheads don't know.) I was watching a documentary on television the other night about the concentration camps, and about how many tourists (in particular Americans) visit those camps every year. And.......(and this sums up my mentality at how Americans can show utmost disrespect when they are tourists in other countries) there was documentary footage at these tourists going to these camps (where how many hundreds of thousands died, in each indvidual camp) wearing their shorts and flip-flops, and taking pictures, for God's sake. It just looked so out of place, in a place with that grim a history......... Or this: When I was in high school, we had an Auschwitz survivor come speak to the history classes. When he opened up the floor to questions, I was horrified at the first one (I am SO not kidding): 'Dude, can we see your tattoo?'

I agree its the administration they hate. We all know we are not all that bad.
On the picture taking at the consentration camps. Some one my ex mother in law knew had actually been/suffered there (Auchwitz) When he went back he took photos because he was planning to make a history book for families who lost loved ones there. The photos were to be part of the book. I actually read the written part of the book. Just dont know what ever became of it.

I can tell you why a lot of Australians dont like Americans. "They" (americans) come across as very self absorbed in their own country and have no clue what goes on in other countries. We (non americans) are getting over run with american terminology (sp?) and fashions, as in - there is not too many african american gangs in australia but yet many white folk talk ghetto! (or whatever the term is), and wear the rapper style clothes etc We get your politics pushed into our faces, so much so that our own Prime Minister wont change a light bulb without George W's permission! (says a lot for our idiot PM). So for the record... In Australia, Kangaroos do not roam the main streets, we do have high rise buildings, I dont personally have a pet koala (couldnt tell you the last time i saw one) and we do not say things like "throw another shrimp on the barbie"... I could kill paul hogan for that one!! We dont even call them shrimps we call them prawns and i dont know too many people that barbeque them! lol Please note when i say "they" i am totally generalising, I do know that not everyone in America is like this. Did any of that make sense?? Red

Sorry, didn't mean it like that......these people were apparently finding something funny about where they were........laughing and all. I thought it extremely offensive. Making a book/documentary--that's a different story.
