Being a former MJustin Beiber Fan and living just over the border I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I think it is utterly ridiculous what Boston went through for these stupid signs. It is all the news talks about 24/7. My husband is furious and thinks the kids should be thrown in jail and I think they were just asked to do a job and they did it and got paid.
On the other hand at night they were cute, in the day they were sketchy...with a wired pack on the bottom of the sign. I can understand they thought "bomb" first instead of "oh this is probably nothing".
Also, someone was trying to sell one on Ebay, but Ebay yanked it due to all the media behind it.
It is kinda cute though...

Still not as embarrassing as the Kansas City cop story, but at least it's one you can laugh at.

Yeah, ok, it's silly and a big over-reaction. But my thing is this: if it was supposed "advertising", why were they sticking them underneath highways and bridges?
<<The bomb scare reports began about 8 a.m. when a MBTA worker reported a package with wires and tubes protruding from it that was stuck on a steel girder under Interstate 93 at Sullivan Square Station in Charlestown. The devices, featuring characters with raised middle fingers, had magnetic backs and were affixed to metal.>>
Because underneath a bridge is where you're gonna get the most exposure? To who, homeless people? Trust me, under a bridge in Sullivan Square ain't exactly prime advertising space. Like MustangKimmy said, in the day when they weren't all lit up the little cartoon guy was pretty hard to see - they basically looked like some sort of metal thing with wires and batteries sticking out - if I saw that stuck to a bridge support beam I might be a little suspicious.
Having said that, yeah, it's still an over-reaction and kind of silly. What really disgusted me was on the front page of my local (Manchester, NH) paper this morning is a picture of the "supporters" of the two guys who were arrested - holding signs that say "1/31/07 - Never Forget."
NOT funny in any way, shape or form.

It was very much an over-reaction. A very delayed one. Those things were put up about three weeks ago. All of this could have been avoided if the appropriate people at City Hall had been approached about placing the advertising in the first place. I'm sure that Turner knew they'd be denied approval to put those things around town so they pulled this "guerilla advertising".
Boston is left looking very stupid with this situation. squeak

why were they sticking them underneath highways and bridges? Can't say for sure....but from what I have heard they are light sensitive and only turn on in the dark. If that is true....I would think that dark/shadowy areas (like overpasses and bridges)would not only trigger them to come on earlier....but also make them more visible when they do turn on.. Just my guess.

So much for guerilla marketing tactics *rolls eyes* Apparently they were planted in several cities for this promo, SF being one of them, but after the hoo-hah in Beantown they agreed to take them down here by end of day (on Wednesday I believe, when this crap went down). So we never saw them. I think they'd get a kick outta them here though. I love it that the lil guy's giving everyone The Finger!
