As a housewarming present on this momentous day, how about a little music? The sharing was so much fun those last few days on the old board, it'd be nice to keep it going. So here's one of my favorite concerts that I got to attend in 2005 -- Manchester, MEN Arena, 12-18-05 Despite Simon's obvious illness, this was a fantastic show, with some great songs they broke out just for the December shows, including Electric Barbarella, Instant Karma, and Point of No Return. Disc One www.sendspace.com/file/2gcjgl1. Intro/Friends of Mine 8. The Reflex 2. Planet Earth 9. Interlude/Point of No Return 3. Astronaut 10. Ordinary World 4. Union of the Snake 11. Skin Trade 5. Come Undone 12. Notorious 6. Instant Karma 13. Nice 7. Sound of Thunder/HBTR Disc Two www.sendspace.com/file/p6gk3k1. Electric Barbarella 5. Rio 2. Save A Prayer 6. That Fatal Kiss/AVTAK 3. Girls on Film 7. Wild Boys 4. Sunrise Hope you enjoy this show as much as I do.

This is one of the best arena rock shows I have ever heard for the following reasons:
1.) That long intro iinto Astronaut - Simon certainly gets the crowd going - the best frontman ever! But the whole song is tremendously played - esp. that Andy guitar - gets the crowd going.
2.) SOund Of Thunder/Hold Back The Rain - what a mix of these 2 great songs - Simon's vocals are great - was he really ill???
3.) The Reflex - Simon lettting the crowd sing - great enthusiasm.
Thanks for the files~!

Great review, goldengun, those were definitely some of the highlights of the show! The Reflex is always one of my favorite things to experience live because of the crowd singing in the beginning. There's something really primal and cathartic about shrieking "DA NA NA NA!" at the top of your lungs.
Yes, Simon looked visibly sick for all 4 of the UK Christmas shows that I attended. It's hard to tell from the Manchester recording (though one of the London nights is a bit sketchier). I came home from that trip dreadfully sick myself, and was ill for over a month afterward. If Simon had anything like that, then I'm amazed that he managed to get on stage at all, let alone sing like that!

I have come across another recording of this show, in these recordings you get a greater sense of how crazy the crowd is as Graecia13 has told us about.
Please let me know what you think of these versions from that famous Manchester show. I still think this version of Astronaut is the best they ever did - and I totally agree with you Graecia13 about The Reflex!!! I will never stop loving this song.
But let's not forget Electric Barberella - Simon's vocals on that performance is brilliant - and Andy's guitar?! Well that guitar playing is SEX. We all know how when they started playing this song live the band had problems here and there - but in Manchester it comes off welll.
And also SKin Trade!!!! I love this version, between Simon's sexy howls and Andy's guitar playing (which I personally thinks enhances this song) Duran's performance of this song makes me want to be in a Mayan Riveria resort and sip rum watch the waves:
