Here's something I don't get. How is that Sony didn't immediately fire Wendy after she made such a hugely incompetent error? Something don't add up...
Are you serious? Wendy doesn't work for Sony. She has her own management company. It has nothing to do with Sony. Duran themselves are the only ones in a position to fire her
And for the folks who totally disbelieve that there could be any wrongdoing on the part of Duran (Simon, John, Nick, Roger) - I'd be keeping an open mind if I were you. Whether this visa story turns out to be true or not, the band's version of events has NEVER made any sense. They've lied all along and given controdictory versions of the "Andy quit" story.
There was a quote at one point - I want to say it was Nick in Billboard, but I could be wrong - but there was a quote where someone in the band said that "perhaps" there was a falling out with the management and not so much with the band.
I'm not as bold as some folks to say I know for sure what happened.....all I can do is speculate - but I do know this: the band has not told the truth and that leads me to wonder why, if there was no wrongdoing on their parts - why they would bullshit their way through so much of this.
Andy on the other hand has been pretty tight lipped for the most part. About the only thing he has said has been that he did not quit. If he did indeed quit, why the hell would he lie about it? I'm not saying it's not possible, for some reasons unknown to the rest of us, but it seems pretty unlikely to me. The band were talking shit about him in early American interviews for RCM.
It may turn out that all sides behaved like Justin Beiber Fans, but the remaining guys in the band have hardly been upfront.
And lets consider the visa possibility for a minute. If it was management's job to work out the visa issues and they failed to do so - it's conceivable that Andy was rightly pissed. The management company works for Duran, not the other way around. Management pockets a percentage of all of the money the band earns. If Wendy and co weren't doing their jobs (and one thing is for sure: either A) she's been giving them very bad advice or B) the band themselves are stupid and haven't got a clue about the current state of the music biz, or both)....if Wendy and co weren't doing their jobs and I were Andy? I'd be pissed too. And if the band won't get off their asses and deal with their management problems........this management hasn't even hired anyone to relaunch their shitty looking website in all of the years since the reunion.....it's still a Pop Trash era website with some fonts and graphics modified. We're talking *minor* teaks.
I don't know what went down (I have my hunches, but that's all they are) - but I know the band hasn't told the truth. I'm not taking either side until some real facts become evident, but I'm curious about what the band are hiding.
Even during the Notorious sessions, Andy said that he wanted more time before continueing on with Duran, but that the label was preasuring the band to have an album out in time for the Christmas (86) market. The band ended up firing their then managers (the brothers) and Andy quit because of wanting more time, and he got tired of being preasured. We never heard that out of the Duran camp back in the day......all we heard was the same old, "well, we suppose" this and that. There were full on legal proceedings going on. The band certainly knew his point of view. It would hardly hurt their case to say, "well, Andy says....blah blah blah, but we're fighting that in court".
Too much "Simon, Nick, John and Roger" can do no wrong on the boards for me (and yeah, as a male fan, *some* of the chick mentality on the boards is ridiculous to me). I know, I know.......anyone who can find any fault with the band shouldn't even be on the boards (one person has already posted as much in this thread).
