The veteran group were due to be paid over half a million pounds for the gig later this summer. But bosses at the bank decided that the concert would not be suitable amid the current credit crunch. Speaking to the Mirror newspaper, an unnamed source said that the band had “rerouted their world tour at great cost to themselves to play the party.” “Then there's the fee. They're in talks but neither side is budging. They are disappointed." A spokesperson for the bank denied that their was a rift between the two parties but acknowledged that the current financial climate was behind the decision to cancel the show. There are a number of pictures associated with the article.

You'd think the contract would have had a clause for this contingency.

I so hope this news is untrue. It is certainly another smash in the face for them. It is bad press certainly. It pictures the band, yet again, in a bad way. All the good things the band creates... does not get decent press. Certainly not what they deserve to get... Have you seen these comments?: www.gigwise.com/news/43207/duran-duran-furious-after-deutsche-bank-pull-private-gigThe question already below the article... perfectly explains the lack of respect the band always gets. So sickning... That is what is making me furious the most. BAH! Love, Madeleine.

I happen to know that in the financial industry there have been many lay offs this year. I agree paying that much for entertainment is f*ckin' rediculous.
It would be wiser to save jobs. Sorry Duran Duran.
Feel me?

probably not an issue about saving jobs - just trimming the fat, and that sucks for DD.....the banks and insurance companies will fare well in the end....big, sloppy institutions. it's an extremely conservative industry. it can't be too bad. the insurance companies are still handing out perks left and right.

Why would a bank organize a private gig? Why would they pay Duran Duran far more than they usually charge for a private appearance? It doesn't sound right to me.
And the comments? "I'd pay a Million to hear them fart!" Yeah, there's a great endorsement. That should go a long way towards getting them respect.

financial services companies always schoomze their reps, sales people, executives etc.....insurance companies love to give incentive perks in the form of trips, parties and free stuff. it is kind of sick when you know the economy is so bad, but the reality is financial institutions make money regardless.
i try not to read any comments...
