I saw the iTunes commercial last night. It sounded like a typical Coldplay song to me. I like Coldplay OK, but it didn't strike me as an outstanding song. I've only heard the snippet, though.

Coldplay is more popular than DD is, plain and simple. Their label shows faith in the band with their marketing because they are great money makers. I think we may be in denial to expect similar treatment for DD by Sony.

I have to agree with Shuttermaze's comments Coldplay impacts EMI's bottom line especially since Robbie Williams is now off chasing spaceships or whatever it is he is doing these days. An article from 2006: www.mp3.com/news/stories/3320.htmlColdplay's impact on the financial fortunes of label giant EMI Group reared its ugly head again today after the band's hint at a breakup or extended rest sent EMI shares tumbling. In accepting an award at Wednesday night's Brit Awards, Coldplay front man Chris Martin said, "Thank you. That's it. We won't see you for a very long time. It's going to be a few years before you see us again. People are fed up with us--and so are we." Several UK media reports took the remark as a sign that Coldplay is breaking up or taking an extended break, with the London Evening Standard running the headline "Coldplay Quit,'' above an article that said the band will "quit the music scene for up to two years.'' In trading today, shares in London-based EMI declined as much as 8 pence, or 3.2 percent, to 245 pence, before closing at 249.5 pence in London after EMI issued a statement denying the reports. "Coldplay are categorically not splitting up," the company said in a statement. "They are on the road until July, when their 16-month X&Y World Tour ends in Japan. They will then be having a well-deserved rest before working on their fourth album." Martin also further clarified his comments afterwards, telling the Hollywood Reporter, "We need to go away. We've got a lot of work to do, that's all." This isn't the first case of Coldplay news damaging EMI's share price. In February 2005, EMI delayed the release of Coldplay's latest album, X&Y, beyond the end of the company's fiscal year on March 31. The news sent EMI shares down more than 16 percent that day. The album eventually was released in June and became a worldwide hit, debuting at the top of the Billboard album chart in the US and selling more than 2.7 million copies in the US and more than 4.5 million copies worldwide.

If the record labels actually developed artists, and had artists with more quality & diversity, then maybe their stock prices and fiscal survival would not depend on one whether one band puts out an album that year. Or stays together, for that matter.

Well if Chris Martin says his band sucked last year then why should we argue? LOL! I think Coldplay's albums all sound the same--let's hear the new album---they don't really go outside their box--not creative! At least DD has balls and try's something new! Sure it was not a successful move but I give DD their credit! Again let's see if Coldplay is around in 30 years! I say not!
Coldplay are U2 wannabees just like Oasis were Beatle wannabees!

Coldplay will be around for a long time. ... In some form I believe. ... Mayeb Chris Martin will bring out a solo cd. ... Honestly, I have no idea who the other guys are. LoL
And I have a question ... what is Robbie Williams like in your area? ... In other words, how does he sell and how is he seen?
He's not that famous here in America, and I dont think he sells well either ... except for around the time when he brought out the "millenium" song. ... Maybe he has bad promotion too. LoL

I can't quit playing Violet Hill and Viva La Vida. I've never been a big fan of Coldplay, but I did like Speed of Sound, Yellow, and Clocks and these two songs are just winning me over at the moment! I plan on getting my hands on this album one way or another. For those interested the NME said they will be performing that free show the 16th I believe and the week after that BBC Radio 1 will podcast the show for a week!

LoL ~ "Wolf" Robbie is/was huge in the rest of the world. North America just never caught the fever I guess. From evil wikipedia Robert Peter Williams (born 13 February 1974) is a Grammy Award-nominated, 15-time BRIT Award-winning English singer-songwriter. His career started as a member of the pop band Take That in 1990. He left Take That in 1995 to begin his solo career, after selling 25 million records with the group. Since then, Robbie Williams has sold more albums in UK than any other British solo artist in history[citation needed]. His album sales stand at over 55 million, with singles sales over 17 million.
Williams entered the The Guinness Book of World Records when in just one day he sold more than 1.6 million tickets for his 2006 world tour. He has been the recipient of many awards, including fifteen BRIT and six ECHO awards. In 2004, he was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame, after being voted as the Greatest artist of the 1990s.
Robbie Williams is the artist that is currently featured the most times in the UK Now That's What I Call Music! series. In the first 68 Now!'s he has appeared 29 times (including 4 times with Take That). His first appearance was with That on Now 22 and his most recent appearance was on Now 66 with "She's Madonna".
I'm not a huge fan but I do like the cheeky/bad boy persona he puts out.
