Have you ever listened to one of your favourite albums/cds and thought damn that song should have been released as a single? Or I would have LOVED to see a video of that song? I was listening to Ghost in the Machine last night and thought I would have LOVED to have "Omegaman" as a single/video, and it just got me curious (as usual, I know ) Let me know if you want ...

Yeah! On that same album (Ghost in the Machine) I would've like to see either "Secret Journey" or "Darkness" as a single and/or video.
In terms of DD, I would've liked to see "American Science," "Palomino" or "Edge of America" as singles/videos.

As far as other acts, that happens pretty frequently. 'Playing With Uranium' is the one biggest example where DD's concerned, though.

It doesn't JUST have to be about DD ... although I DO know it's a DD board. LOL

Playing with Uranium would have been good, but absolutely they should have had "Kiss Goodbye/Last Day on Earth" as the lead single from Pop Trash. I swear that song could have single handedly saved that album saleswise. You see, I've got this obsessive need to, if not get people to like Duran Duran, then at least to cure them of the old "Rolling Stone" delusion that they were nothing but a teeny bop band put together by a record company to lip-synch or whatever. If the music simply doesn't do it for someone, that's fine. I just hate people who dislike a band for all the wrong reasons. So, whenever I make mix CDs for people I have a policy of not providing them with the tracklist and artist info until they've listened to it a few times, in order to prevent any prejudice from coloring their opinion of what they're hearing. The song that most consistently gets a completely positive review (not to mention that no one EVER guesses that its Duran Duran) is Last Day on Earth. They always like it. I'm talking about 18 to 25 year old kids that I work with, who only know Duran Duran as a cliche '80s band (or only KNEW them as such before I invariably whack some sense into them). The song simply kicks ass, and also represents how far Warren Cucurullo pushed them to experiment. My band used to play it at our shows, and it was tough for them to learn with those verses in 5/4 time, but man was it fun to play. Admittedly, in that environment, because the bar crowd had never heard it, for the most part they sat on their hands when we'd finish - when people go out to see a covers band at a bar, unfortunately they're not looking to be exposed to new music they've never heard. Hell, we crush when we play "Just" by Radiohead...put our all into it and play it really well, and yet when we're done, the older crowd always responds with incredulous silence (like "What the hell was THAT?"), so we invariably have to launch into "Sweet Home Alabama" or something to get 'em back on our side, LOL! As for other Duran Duran songs that would have made great singles IMHO, and throw in all my favorite bands on top of that, I'll have to give it some thought...I could probably come up with a few...hundred!

Duran Duran: Anyone Out There Sound of Thunder Hold Back the Rain Of Crime and Passion Shadows on Your Side American Science Proposition Palomino First Impression Breath After Breath Kiss Goodbye/Last day on Earth Virus (I still can't believe they left it off the album, let alone not making it a single) Beautiful Colors The Valley Box Full o' Honey Well, I was about to go into some other favorite groups, but I've got to head to the rink - first playoff game is tonight! Probably for the better,a s it has a tendency just to turn into a list of my favorite songs anyway, real single potential or not!

Not that this is my choice, but perhaps the most famous non single song ever is Stairway to Heaven, a song so famous everyone thinks it was a single. I would say that U2 is one of those bands that had many songs that could have been singles. I love their version of Dancing Barefoot, Also, Love Comes Tumbling Down would have been good choices. As far as other acts, that happens pretty frequently. 'Playing With Uranium' is the one biggest example where DD's concerned, though. I remember when I first heard it thinking it was a perfect single. It would have fit perfectly with the alternative charts of that time. Probably not a pop hit, but really DD would do fine with just alternative hits.

Love Comes Tumbling, the Three Sunrises...Luminous Times (Hold onto Love), Spanish Eyes, Silver and Gold...A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel, Dancing Barefoot...Satellite of Love, Lady With the Spinning Head...each album had b-sides as good as the stuff on the albums - one thing that has always indicated a truly great artist IMHO...Radiohead and Tori Amos over their first several albums...same thing. There were so many tremendous B-sides it was like having a companion album for each release!
